Went to the International Marina in Torrevieja today, planning a trip out on the boat. Walking through the marina looked to see the boat in it's mooring - no boat! it's gone!

Realised that most of the other boats on the pontoon were missing too! It's a lovely day but I can't remember 50% or more of the boats being out at the same time.

The marina is having major reconstruction and all the concrete pontoons are being replaced. Work started in March this year. They have nearly completed the west side pontoons and are going to start the east side pontoons next week - hence my boat has been relocated. Went to the office to find out where it is now - in another marina in the harbour. Marina Sal- new marina but never completed so there are no pontoons in it, just retaining moles. My boat is now well tied up completely surrounded by lots of other boats all packed in. No way to get it out. I should get it back in 20 days when the new pontoon has been installed.......

Fortunately its not a problem for me as I won't be back again until end of July. But I was more than a bit miffed as I was in the office the day before and no-one said anything. However if anyone else has a boat in the international marina, it might be worth a call to find out whats happening and consider mooring it in Marina Salinas whilst work is being done if you will be needing it soon. If you have left fridges/chargers etc on ask them to turn them off/isolate batteries as there is no shore power in the holding marina.

Have to say that I would be thoroughly unimpressed if our boat had been moved without an explanatory call from the marina.

I believe the marina is 25 years old.
About 2 or 3 years ago two of the pontoons collapsed into the sea in the middle of the night, pulling 6 small boats down with them. Very fortunately no one aboard asleep. Next day insurance co engineers etc assessing the whole thing, akro’s fitted under everything. Finally someone has decided to pay up for complete replacement. No idea the cause but probably corrosion in the steel inside the concrete.

not something you see every day.....

they are just finishing the last pontoon on the west side this week.
On the plus side hopefully we will get all new shore power electrics etc.

A couple of weeks back we woke up in our home berth in Ocean Village to find out that the electricity had been disconnected at 06:30 that morning and the ramp to access the pontoons was being removed ie we were effectively stranded with no route to walk ashore at least until they rearranged to pontoons the next day.

A combination of utterly incompetent project management and no thought whatsoever about their customers.

I was on holiday, so able to cast off to a different marina, still rather irritating though and wife was not best pleased at not being able to go ashore for a shower. It showed precisely where current customers come in MDL's priorities.
