than buying a second boat......it's got to be....buying a second boat.......with a non-running engine....And if there's anything less sensible than that.......

How big is your back garden? More information on boats and problems might give us more to laugh about! Tell your girlfriend ny boat still works.

Got all excited about a Fairline Weekender with Volvo V8 not run in two years...
And when firing up my Bayliner (see avatar) got clouds of smoke and oil in the cooling water...it's definiely sick...
At least it waited til the end of the 'season'-what there was of it-before it broke
Oh well, there are a LOT of VERY cheap boats out there /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I would concentrate on the Fairline Weekender, Give your girlfriend the task of redesigning the interior.
Should keep her happy untill you can sort the engine.

Whats wrong with the Volvo V8?, if it's stood for 2 years it might be good to go with a bit of prior TLC. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The problem with the engine is simple-no carburettor. When it wouldn't start 6 months ago it was removed and found to be corroded inside, most likely from condensation.
I am advised, however, that if the engine wasn't decommissioned correctly, risers and manifolds are likely to be shot, and also possibility of block being cracked. Will get an inspection done before committing myself!
Plus, of course, the boat's in Cornwall and I'm in Hampshire-no trailer-minimum £500 just to get it back here...

Err.........Right,

Ebay dare I say for a compatible engine, might do for spares, or coastal rides may have one kicking about.

Shouldn't be too much trouble to find a second hand Volvo V8!!!.
Sounds like a great winter project.

was coastal rides who advised on the block cracking scenario....and also quoted 5k for fitting a replacement second-hand engine and leg...
