If the Daily Mail made boats....

Ah, that'll be because it's not 100ft, it's nearer 100m. It's one of Paul Allens, isn't it? Doesn't it live on the IYC in Antibes?

Cheers
Jimmy

Yes that's Tatoosh, one of Paul Allen's (the #2 s'holder in Microsoft, after bill Gates). He has the bigger Octopus and the smaller Meduse, too. It doesn't live at IYCA but is here a couple of months a year in total I guess. Noe of PA's boats is on his berth at the moment

The port side tender to Tatoosh is a 60foot (approx) sloop - the black stick in the pic is her mast

Actually, they did...

Anyone remember the Mailboat?
Mid (maybe late) 1960s.
Bizarre expanded polystyrene thing, about 8ft long, that looked a bit like a cross between a toboggan and a wheelbarrow seen through some kind of distorting lens, and with a sail that made an Optimist look overpowered.

Yes!
As a kid I had a Mailboat (made from high-density polystyrene, not expanded polystyrene, for obvious reasons). It had a jib in addition to the pram main, and so probably had more sail than an Opi
Father & I drove to somewhere on S coast to collect it, and it went upside down on the roofrack of a Ford Capri.
Secondhand in 1972 the price was something around £10 from an advert in Exchange & Mart.
I could lift it onto the car myself (aged 10) it was very light, but surprisingly strong, and could sail it single handed, we used to go to a pond near Wisley (I don’t think the fishermen were too pleased), and we even took it to France on the roof-rack one year.
