Where did you source the KKKs btw ?
Looks like a lot of gaskets too .PME based in Plymouth / Poole ( no surprises there ) will stock them .

Hose on the Passerelle, has it just split ? Or a loose connector flown off ?
Guy opposite me bought a jet ski ....worked a few times then a pipe blew out - split .
He had a new ( bigger ram ....not your issue lifting cap ) and a whole set of new pipes .They must degrade with time / UV etc .
Then a lad spent 2/3 days cleanup, oil.

Having said that I've just checked the official volvo penta price for my turbo - £2500, and a new one from turbo diesel UK - £1130

The turbo is £2800 from PME, plus £400 for the gaskets.

Does the £680 require a core unit thats rebuildable?

I would expect the £680 to be strip and clean. Replace bearings and seals and fastenings, reassemble and balance. Your unit is not fit for that. I may be wrong but I doubt there's a new wheel and shaft included in that price.

4800 euro might be a new unit with no exchange.

That’s for a full recon unit, exchange, no mention of condition on the exchange unit, new turbo outright is only a grand.

I think that all of us in SoF are surrounded by companies who deal with people that will pay any price just to continue their holiday...and they get away with it. As demonstrated on here, some shared wisdom, spanners and a bit of DIY determination can save ££££s.

Ours are K126 or something like that IIRC. So how come his massive blunderbuster is cheaper than ours by a 100 quid. Earlier I was somewhat relieved I only had a little KAD but now I feel jilted :mad:
 
Chris, do you want me to ask one of my contacts at Beaulieu if their mechanic can help you with the fitting when your new turbo shows us?

Great job sourcing the replacement. 17 hours labour is robbery.

probably coz the MAN engines are used in loads of other stuff so they make and sell lots of turbos.

The KAD’s are ground up marine engine so we get walloped

But a lot of components are bought in ....turbos inc , Wether KKK , holset , Borg Warner or what ever .
Bosch will supply alternators , starter motors , injectors etc .

Volvo will not make turbos .....paint them green sure .
