...the halcyon days of the Motor Boat Forum, when journos were real journos etc etc. And they used to give away VHFs for the best post of the month, and stuff. Well, if you do, you may remember I won one. And then auctioned it off for the RNLI on this very forum. Well, my Lodge added some money to what I got for the radio, and on Sunday we presented a cheque to the Mudeford Lifeboat.

When I spoke with the Hon Sec, Vic Derham to arrange it, he asked us did we still have our boat in commission at that time of year.

The long and short of which is that we had the honour of taking part in a combined exercise with the Mudeford ILB and the Coastguard helicopter from Portland. I've sent Kim some pics, and I'll put a few up on my website in the next day or two, but...

What a blast! What an experience, too. If anyone gets the chance to do this, jump at it. You would not believe how difficult and stressful it can be trying to hold a speed and course with 76ft and nine and a half tons of helicopter just over your left ear.

Thanks to everyone who took part in the auction, and to the folks at Mudeford for the experience fo a lifetime.
