Idiots guide please for VP 290 DP Leg oil change

I have to say that the Volvo outdrive oil is a just an ordinary 75W/90 synthetic oil, there are not any 'special' additives in it that repell water or anything else.

Have a read here Volvo specificaly claim additives to trap water etc....

I have looked at the Volvo statement and I understand where you are coming from, however those additives are usually in the engine oils, you don't normally get soot for example in a gear box - well I don't!
I have used normal 75/90 synthetic in my 290 DPE's and are now well over the 1000 hour mark and to date still OK.

I questioned my local dealer on this as well, but was assured there are water trapping additives in there. Agree any good synthetic oil will do the job, but if water gets in having the additives there may save the drive, as it will allow the oil to keep on fuctioning. Obviously if water never gets in then it doesn't matter.
