Back in May while being in a bit of a hurry I accidentally swapped our campingaz bottle for a eurocamping gas bottle. We couldn't do anything much about it at the time but now we're back at the scene of the accident. A couple of places we tried understandably won't swap them and the place where it happened are denying all knowledge of ever even having a bottle like that. They've offered to refill it, but that would seem to be postponing the problem. So to the point of the post:

  • Is this really a problem? Can I get this brand exchanged in Sicily/Sardinia/Corsica/France (our proposed route home for next summer)?
  • Does anyone have any suggestions for something else I could do about it, other than:
  • Does anyone on Corfu/Sicily got a campingaz bottle that is surplus to requirements?
  • Does anyone want a eurocamping gas bottle?
  • If all else fails, anyone know where I can buy a new campingaz bottle in Corfu or Sicily?

Cheers!

I have a couple of Eurocamping bottles, exchanged in Greece with no problems. They seem to be Italian, so a swap in Sicily or Sardinia seems to be a possibility. I like them, the additional capacity is most helpful and they just about fit the space of a Camping Gaz bottle.

What we done in the pass is find a yacht going to Greece and explain that they will probity end up losing there camping gas bottle for the Greece type and see of they willing to exchange them for you , Sicily we never had a problem with filling up non camping gas bottle also Malta no problem .
One thing you can try is if there are the same size as the ICG bottle spray them the same colour , we done this in the pass and managed to trader them for ICG .

The chandler in Licata had 907 bottles for sale in April'ish, something like 70 euros - no idea if that included gas. Refills in town at Licata were 8 euros for a 907 size, not fussy about the bottle and you got the same one back - 4-5 hr turnaround.

At a supermarket in Epidauros yesterday they had a pile of CGI 907s, Eurogas and Petrogaz.Even the Petrogaz was a resprayed CGI bottle. They didn't seem to care which type was picked up or set down by customers exchanging. I was told a couple of months ago that the rigid like for like system which came in to parts of Greece last year has now been relaxed. This was at one of the well known chandlers in Gouvia.
