Recently bought a 28 foot yacht (8m 55) - which is supposed to be a Victoire 28 - a Solid Dutch Sloop, however the dutchmen on the next berth say it is "definitely" not a Victoire (it certainly has a different stern and the rudder in a different place) - so what is it ?
I think it was built circa 1980 and a previous owner was French - as many of the manuals are annotated in his scribble. I know it has also lived in Bristol and Falmouth. It has a Perkins Perama M20 3 cylinder engine - and a fin and skeg with prop in a cutout and a beam of 2.6m. Can anyone help? ..there should be pix attached.

Could it be a Victoire 933, a 30ft Koopmans design which had a deck and superstructure very similar to that in the picture? I can't see the transom or the underwater profile so I can't be sure. Could be a number of others designs too but I suspect someone will post in a moment who has the sistership and can give you chapter and verse.

Incidentally, all Victoires had a sail symbol of a solid circle with the points of a V coming out of it which might be a clue.

It looks similar to Victoire 28 however coachroof seems higher and squarer.

Here is photo from www.victoire.nl

I don't know, yours looks as if the front hatch, companion way top and the windows have been re-modeled otherwise It looks remarkably similar.

Maybe the transom got a makeover as well.

yacht's bottom

Many thanks all - yes I agree it probably is a Victoire and my Dutch neighbours were wrong!
Here are a couple of pictures showing her "bottom" and transom if that helps narrow it down I think the Victoire came in a long and a fin keel version - this is obviously the fin -

Stumped

The mystery deepens ...there are no markings on the sail - and if James Jermain doesn't know what she is I am well and truly stumped... maybe I'll try the Dutch Victoire club to see if they have any idea. Meanwhile all suggestions welcome.

Mystery solved

I have traced one of the original owners - and she IS a Victoire 28 - there used to be a plate etc. identifying her as such but that's now gone, and the then owner had been in contact with Victoire yachts too. A previous owner was Belgian and had presumably imported her. Not clear when she was built though some say 1974 - others 1981
Apparently there weren't very many of this particular model which might explain discrepancies..so there you go!

About the Victoire 28:

Hi,
I am an owner of a 1971 Victoire 28, your vessel does not at all appear to be a Victoire 28, fyi: check out this link and hover over the years 1967, 1970 and 1973, you will see that the 28's were only made for a few years, and none were fin keel either btw, your boat much more closely resembles the Victoire 26 bowrail and cabin lines anyways:p

Identify my yacht again

Thanks just picked up your message - haven't visited the forum for months. The mystery deepens I finally e-mailed the Victoire designer Dick Koopmans who says it is not a Victoire - and suggesting I contact the Dutch magazine Zeiler - others say it is a British yacht (although winches etc are Dutch and equipment is french/belgian though they might not be original)
Any ideas anyone?
