Come on all with decent imagination, JFM is getting a new boat (small ship ;) ) & he has got heaps of great trick idea's for his new baby way beyond what us mortals would consider I am sure... but what else can anyone suggest that JFM might not have considered?

Well here goes,
JFM, I am sure you will be having your transom underwater lights, in multi-colours and probably a new rib with similar... but how about going the whole way round....

Something to show the temperature of a trickle :)

(I have these and they work well to warn of excessive hot water).

What about an Ensign Auto Dipping device.

This would be the envy of the Royal Navy and all pedantic flag wavers.

Thanks for the ideas folks...

1. Underwater lights along the sides: ah, this is already in progress. Lumishore have new flush lights and they will be fitted along the sides in front of the transom. Not sure about taking them all along the sides though. Can be done, but might look daft? Lumishores are much lighter than those ones btw
2. Jacuzzi on fly - Nooooo! But bath in master cabin - yes. (And a watermaker)
3. Daka's safety taps - possible, but would it feel like those stickers saying "Hot!" by the heated towel rail?
4. Hobie Wave looks awesome but the Laser has a special place in my heart - I had one for years as teenager. Still the best sailboat in the world imho. I just tried to order one as the waitlist is long and they are not sure they can supply one by Jan 2011
5. Seabreacher - thanks for the link adey. Never seen that before. Fantastic machine. It needs that mesh decal stuff in grey on the windows to remove the black, so it looks even more like a shark. Bit big, but would fit well on an Outer Reef boat deck
6. DougH, sound the geek alert, but I have actually been working in my sketchbook on a design for an electric courtesy flag changer, with Fr, Spain, Monaco, Italy loaded into it. It's at the sketch book stage currently, but might be made. It would then be a simple step to feed in GPS position by NMEA then it would work automatically
7. Richard's BBQ donut. Could have its uses... :-)
8. Sarabande, I liked those FLIR things till I saw the price. Jeeze! They're like 50grand. I'll just go to Specsavers...

Thanks for the ideas. All being taken more seriously than you expected!

My next door neighbour's got a Laser which just sits around unused under cover. I was thinking of offering to buy it myself but would get shot for turning up with yet one more bit of junk. Prolly wants 100ml of Haydn's boat removing chemicals to make it sparkle like new, plus a new sail and you'd be there.

Rinspeed Splash

No no no! We need to push the boundries here. What JFM needs is one of these.

You wont believe what this thing does!!

Well, I reckon a good sized Besenzoni crane of the flybridge would have this baby over the side and away. How cool would that be, even in posh Antibes I bet no one has one of these on their FB :-)

Wow that's a gorgeous bit of kit Trevor. I'd love one, though I cant fly. Could prob get the required licence tho in time for deliv. I've actually seen it in great detail before - they showed me the business plan for a Euro distributor about a year ago but the deal never happened

Petem, I did try to get Wattsons to make special teak decks with wider planks but it wasn't feasible due to their manufacturing processes which are set up for 50mm planks. Shame, cos 60mm would look better on this size boat, but not gonna happen

Firefly, I haven't seen those cameras before. So many boat gadgets these days. Good idea if it works but I dont fancy having a hole in the hull for such a product :-) The underwater lights on that website were rubbish. 75w halogen bulb, so that's 15 watts of light and the rest as heat. Lumishores are 100w+ of light, which will make those halogens look like tealights :-)

I'll soon have an agreed spec/mods list for the boat agreed with Fairline. It runs to 66 items, which aint bad for a "production" builder. Praps I'll post here wehn finalised
