ID this Eberspacher?

To give some scale, it's at least 2' long and just appears to be a cylinder. The fuel pump looks like the usual in-line unit, but I've not seen this cylinder type before.
It doesn't work (usual thing, fan runs on cold but won't fire when set to heat) so just trying to work out the best option for repair or, more likely, replacement.
I can't see any sort of identification numbers on it (suspect they're on the rear) so I know it's not much to go on!
 
I can't help you with the identification but I have recently had a fairly old D5 repaired. I used Mellor Online (www.melloronline.co.uk - 01924 274774) and can highly recommend them. They specialise in the repair of heaters for trucks, motorhomes and boats. They collected the heater, executed the repair and returned it to me for approx half the price I had been quoted by the local marine business. We are talking about a saving in the hundreds of pounds.

I suggest they are well worth a call or an E-mail. I have no connection with them other than being a very satisfied customer.

I suspect it will be easier and cheaper to replace it, but will certainly give melloronline a try first :)
 
Looks a lot like to 4DL that we have, but a different colour. I think I read once that orange was the original colour and refurbed ones were black or something like that.

Basic diagnosis;
- is there a circuit (continuity) through the glow plug? If yes, it's likely fine, if not it needs replacing.
- does the pump tick 15 secs after heat demand is selected? If not, likely the timer relay is broken.

I've also used Mellor Online before for an Eberspacher purchase and I was also very impressed, both on Price and service.
 
Thanks all. Got chatting to the (extremely helpful) Eberspacher lot at the boat show today who also advised it was probably a D4L. Apparently it was a standard fitment on that boat so a refurbished original would tie in well with the age of it.
Couple of things to check then, thanks for those. The pump doesn't even try to run so maybe it is something simple.
 
sounds like it might need resetting on my dl5 if it fails to light with no fuel it has to be reset , you will find ebber repairers in most cities as they do all the night heaters for lorries good luck and well worth repairing ,wk
hen i bought my boat the guy said the ebber was knackered he had taken it off but chucked it on the boat when sold ,it cast £120 to repair

I don't think there's anything that sophisticated on the 4DL. If it fails to start, turning off and on again is the reset procedure.
