Please could someone ID this and give a very basic value (deceased estate) - asking for a friend who tells me it has been well maintained 'til very recently.
Thanks
If that photo is recent it looks in good nick, but its value will depend as much on how usable it is rather than what it looks like in a photo. Also its pedigree - designer, class and builder will have a big influence on value.
Do you want a value for probate or an idea of what it might sell for? If the former and you have to justify to HMRC then you will do better getting a professional valuation from a specialist like Wooden Ships.
Having said all that a wooden 25' (guessing a bit as to size of that boat) is likely to sell somewhere between £5-10k.
If you post a bit more detail as in the first paragraph you might get a better guess.
Thanks Vics and Tranona - photo is quite dated I think. Don't have any more info just need an idea of what the family should ask and what the boat is. Thanks again for your useful contributions.
PS; how did you you do that Vics as the photo was the right way up when I chose it from photo file on computer?
Could be a Waterbug. However there were many of that type of boat built in the 1930's and just after the war, often almost by eye in small boatyards. almost certainly there will be a builders plate somewhere, probably in the cockpit. Usually a small brass plate showing the builders name and maybe a number. Is there any paperwork with the boat?
Shame you don't have a photo of the stern....... that would have helped! Can your pal not supply details of year of build and yard...... surely that must have been known to the deceased?
Anyway, value for a wooden boat that size....... virtually nothing unless in tip top condition, and rapidly decreasing while probate is obtained as the season slips away and the seams open up.
Quite possibly a Deben 4 tonner, built on the east coast probably mid or late 1950's. Many were built by Johnson & Jago and had various superstructure layouts.

If you have a name for her, I'll look her up in my old copy of Lloyds List.
Always a bit tricky id'ing from a photo of a photo, as it can introduce distortions to the shape, but I'm guessing a coachroof version of a Johnson&Jago Lynette.
Thanks for all suggestions and offers of help. I'm afraid the only info I have is the photo. I have linked this thread to the guy making the enquiry and will update here if any further news.
