I\'d like to start a Ladies Forum

Following the post which is around at the moment about SWMBO's
I'd like us to have a forum which is female dominated and then the boot can be on the other foot for us. I'm fed up with not feeling disadvantaged and I'd like a place to go to when I need comfort and succour - a place of positive strokes and mutual support.
So come on Kim - knit me a girlie forum please

Re: I\'d like to start a Ladies Forum

Considering Jimi's posts on Lycra and Split ends I should think we are half way there. Maybe he will soon have a rudder to take us all the way.

I agree. There is a lot to be said for a bit of female domination. Nanny always scolds me when I've been naughty. And if I'm really bad she.........

Ahem. Nice day, isnt it?

well, we can't have the ladies entering a place painted in these colours, can we? and, there's the issue of the ahem amenities? there aren't any. no shower, washing machine, dish washer, microwave either .... this could be the beginning of the end once the truth is out and we'll hae youse tae thank as we trundle aboot in motorised caravans .........

Re: I\'d like to start a Ladies Forum

Noooo!!! Who will I talk to about the footie? Will I be allowed my pint of the black stuff, or have to sip vodka and orange? Will I have to grow my nails and have to worry constantly about breaking 'em..?

The horror, the horror...

I've never felt disadvantaged on these forums - might be a result of me being a complete dimwit, or just that I'm freshly back from the colonies and full of American coffee beans.

Or might just be that we're now a two-saily boat family. There - does that make you feel disadvantaged? /forums/images/icons/smile.gif OK, if they both worked it might...

Re: I\'d like to start a Ladies Forum

So we provide sucour and comfort do we- is this what a ladies forum would be about? I thought you would retreat to the pub for that sort of thing. As for knitting- lots of guys do that. If I remember correctly, a submarine skipper used to knit when stressed during the last war. None of his crew found that particularly strange. Maybe you should try it. If it works, you could teach me.
As Powerskipper said, is there something about you we ought to be making allowances for? We are certainly sympathetic- and we won't tell!!

Re: I\'d like to start a Ladies Forum

Knitting, Indeed, used to do that quite a bit, as well as making that tube knitting stuff with four nails hammered into an old wooden cotton reel, but my forte was really using mum's sewing machine to make clothes for my Action Man....just before he got burnt in action due to the petrol doused toy war machines.

However, the thing you have to make allowances for, is the fact that like most blokes, I've had my balls chopped off by SWMBO, due to minor infractions like leaving the toilet seat up! /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Re: I\'d like to start a Ladies Forum

There used to be a US magazine called something like Sailing for Women. All about how you could be a trusty little helpmate for the Skipper in Your Life, and full of twee articles such as "Crochet your very own holding tank". Jimi would have been thrilled.

One article reported on a female reader who'd daringly taken out a boat with just another woman!!. It was a motorboat though, on a lake, and the photos (yes, there was a photo-boat in attendance at this remarkable event) showed that not a nail had been cracked. SWMBO puked when she read it, first time she'd been sea-sick in years.

The mag's since gone under - pity as it would have provided also sorts of hints and tips for a dainty ladies forum (get rid of that nasty blue colour, for a starter).

ANOTHER yacht?

God, you've got the bug! Tell us about it, then. Or are we talking Oppie for the kiddies here?

How did you make out in Florida? Buy loads of flash cheapo electronics?

Re: ANOTHER yacht?

We've bought a Kingfisher 30 (at last, at last!) as a winter project. Found her in Guernsey. Work needs doing, but that's what we wanted. So, many more questions re. diesel engines, alcohol stoves, rigging, bla and etc. comin' at y'all very soon methinks. And then there will be the re-naming ceremony, very much needed...

Not too many electronics bought in the US - apart from the handheld VHF that caused such a fuss in my previous post - but holy crap the prices over there are unbelivable. I know the dollar is weak at the mo' but we're talking a third of the price for virtually everything. And that includes boats! Even WalMart - the evil empire - has a boating section. They even sell anchors. Gobsmacked we were.

I'm not setting foot in a UK chandlery unless my life depends upon it this season. OK, well maybe for just that nice little...oh, and then there's the...Seriously though, we didn't spend half as much as we should have, and are going back later this year to stock up on stuff for the new boat.

Bring it on. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Sorry, Claymore, will let you get back to your crocheting now. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Oooh, you're going to get into awful trouble with your mum now! When will you bring her over, or will you scuttle off to Guernsey to work on her?

Re: ANOTHER yacht?

Tee hee. She's hitching a lift on a 'proper' ship later this month or early July to be laid up in Dell Quay, Chi over the winter. She'll also be near 2 other K30s moored there, so the 3 of them will have lots of catching up and midnight feasts, no doubt...

SO excited!
