Icom VHF Command Mic

I am in similar situation. The Icom 323 previous owner fitted below will not take a command mike. I think the best option is to fit a replacement stand alone VHF in the cockpit - at a similar cost to just a command mike on its own let alone new compatible main set. I don't see much benefit in radio below, it seems to be a remnant from the past that boat builders have not got away from.
 
I have a 411 at the chart table and just use a handheld a venerable m71 icom which I’m sure is 15 years old now in the cockpit.
Command mics are nice but for the cost i can’t see it’s worth it when what I have functions perfectly well!
 
What the command mics offer is superior clear audio and full power on transmit as well as simple control both in cockpit and below at the same time, I never realised how much better until I upgraded, do agree though at a cost
