ICOM M801 MMSI Change

Hy all, i have an VHF ICOM M801 and i want to change the MMSI because i changed the flag and all the things, how i can do it without send it to the ICOM center.

The M 801 is a MF/HF ssb radio.

The mms I can be reset by a dealer with the correct software.

If you are in uk you need a long range certificate to operate this radio.

Hy all, i'm not from UK and someone said me that ICOM M801 can be programmed by yourself, but needs a special software and a adaptor(DB9, RS422 comunication and a mono jack).

Someone know something about this?

The MMSI identifies the boat, not the radio, so the MMSI will be the same across VHF, MF, and HF.

The M801 is a DSC radio, so should have the boat's MMSI programmed in.

DSC is arguably more useful on MF/HF than on VHF, because there isn't really a single equivalent to ch16 to hail everyone in range. But with a dedicated DSC watch antenna the radio scans across the various bands (each of which has a nominated DSC control frequency, the equivalent to vhf ch70) and if someone is trying to call you then it will catch the message as it scans through, alert you, and set up the radio on the right frequency ready for you to speak. Until then the radio can be muted rather than buzzing away.

That said, I get the impression that not many leisure users who have HF use DSC, either because they don't see any value (which is kind of a chicken-and-egg thing) or because they're using older or non-marine kit which doesn't have it. Being a smaller market with much higher prices, relatively fewer new sets are bought versus second-hand or reprogrammed Ham gear.

2182 KHz is from radio in MF and 2187.5 KHz in DSC in MF, but i still not succeed to program my Icom M801, my pc doesn't want to recognize it.

So what i should try?

You are a bit behind the times. The requirement to continuously monitor 2182 was dropped in the 1970's with the introduction of the two tone alarm and the requirement for commercial vessels to carry a two tone receiver/alarm unit. DSC has replaced the two tone alarm in providing distress monitoring.

Incidentally, the legal requirement to monitor VHF Ch 16 was also dropped with the full adoption of GMDSS and VHF DSC many years back. It is now a 'recommendation' in open water but may be a requirement in some port areas. VHF Ch 13 is the GMDSS channel for 'bridge to bridge' navigation communication.

Things sure have moved on.
When I was but a boy , we still monitored 500 (CW) during the silence periods (15-18 and 45-48 pas the hour).
Starting to feel old very quickly all of a sudden. :o
