Is it possible to reprogram the MMSI number?
Haven't found anything in the manual.

One of the people I work for is looking to buy a boat overseas (in Holland).
The boat comes with an Icom M601 DSC radio - an MMSI number has already been entered.

Am I correct in assuming that national radio authorities allocate MMSI numbers?
If so, it seems logical he'll get a UK MMSI number from OFCOM when he registers the boat here. Is this correct?
Or can the Dutch MMSI be transfered to him?

If I am correct. most DSC radios allow one chance (or maybe two on some) to programme in an MMSI. Once in however that's it and if you want to change it you will have to take it to an ICOM service agent for reprogramming.

I will happily stand corrected however.

I have an Icom 505, the handbook says mmsi code programming can only be done once. Reprogramming by the owner is not possible, (unless you are very clever I suppose ).

It will have to be reprogrammed by an ICOM dealer, you can't reprogramme the MMSI number yourself.

If the vessel is to be re-registered in the UK then yes. Ofcom will issue a UK based MMSI starting with the any of the 3 digits 232 up to and including 235. The prefixs for UK registered vessels
