I'm buying a hand-held VHF - have scanned the previous posts and both the above get good reviews from people here, but which one do people prefer???

My choice is kind of limited to these two as Amazon do not sell Standard Horizon (and I have Amazon vouchers to use), so would prefer thoughts on these two unless people feel strongly the SH is significantly better...... :D

If you have to buy one or the other, go for the Icom M33 as it has a Li-Ion battery and a better reputation. The Cobra is also overpriced on Amazon; you can get it much cheaper elsewhere.

I'd probably use the vouchers for something else and get a Standard Horizon instead.

I've got a Cobra, find it very good, rewind is very useful.

I prefer having the option of powering it with its alternative battery pack loaded with Duracells, which resides in the grab bag.

I note that the Amazon Cobra does not come with an alternative battery tray. Not clear whether you can buy as an optional extra.
