Icom IC-M505 DSC \"Position Report\" Problem
I have a IC-M505 and it appears correctly to receive GPS data, and displays date, time, lat, long, speed etc when the [channel+enter] button is pressed. But it wants manual input of position and time before it can send a position report??
The display does not show and “???” symbols to suggest that the NMEA data has any errors, and the NMEA sentence is RMC being output several times a second on NMEA to the radio
The problem with Position Report Call
Press menu to enter the DSC menu. This works correctly
Rotate [channel] to select “Position Report. This works correctly
Rotate [channel] to select the pre-programmed individual address. This works correctly and select an address
Since the IC-M505 has a valid NMEA position input, the radio should display “Position report ready”. However, it displays a screen to enter the current position and time. This screen is pre-populated with the GPS position and time data and I have to [channel+enter] on every character to be able to move to the “Position report ready” screen. It is then possible to transmit the position report. I am sure that I have used this before and have not been prompted for manual position input!
The manual clearly states in several places, that there’s no need to enter position data manually if the position is available from GPS. The menu item under the DSC menu to enter position is not shown, but every time I try a position report, it wants confirmation of the position. I tried turning the radio, GPS, plotter etc off and on, but this makes no difference. Also makes no difference what station is set as the recipient of the position report call.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? I wouldn't want to be in a position to have to input position manually if I were in the unfortunate position to have to press the red button.
I've written to Icom re this, but it anyone else has a '505 and can check this and PM me, I'd be grateful.
Thanks
