got a strange problem, my ICOM hand held seems to be playing up. The squelch function seems to stop working especially when I use it a lot. I have compared it to my fixed vhf (simrad) and on the same channels with small amount of squelch simrad is OK but handheld buzzes away with full squelch - then stops for a while. Any clues ???? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I had a problem with mine where the spindles of the vol and squelch were seizing up with salt and a little corrsion , the loacal dealer cleaned them up with a little emery paper and it was fine.

talking of ICOM just bought one for a client its waterproof, suggests you wash it in a bucket of water now and then to get salt off.
One annoying difference between the new one and my old one is that my old one (year 2000) has good old fashioned double knob on the top one for vol one for squelch, so you could adjust both at any time without looking at the set even at night.

Turned the new one on for the fist time was screeming squelch pressed a button marked squelch no different, had to consult the manual for something as simple as adjusting squelch. Give me the old fashioned knobs

I would suggest under a slow running tap is better than in a bucket of water.

Great Little Radio's, but beware that if you leave them with the battery installed and the set turned off, there is a small voltage leak that will and does run the battery down. The manufacturer is aware of it and tells me that it is not a fault but symthomatic of the type of switch that they use.

Nope their manual shows it submerged in a container of water

Running water is better than a bucket.
