Boats, Ice and Sun - Photos
It was great to get out on the water yesterday. Despite the icy weather we managed to get down to Lough Derg to check boat. Gave boat a good checking over and glad to find frost heaters had been working well. Ran engines for about 40 mins to ensure all was well and safe to head out. Lovely crisp sunny winters day, so after breaking a little thin ice in the marina harbour, we headed up the Lough for a relaxed spin.
Thin ice in centre of harbour but little around boat waterlines
The sound of the thin ice pinging as it broke was quite strange. It looked worse than it was
Channel out of marina harbour to the main river Shannon
Internal boat and cockpit heating kept us warm and cosie
Who says only inlanders are hardy – lone Jetskier arrived in from the lake
Killaloe bridge with the snowey mountains in the distance. Temp -1.
Two Eskimo jetskiers came in off the giant lough – they were dressed for it
Erie sight - Derg Marina outside jetties abandoned since the recent floods
Escape to the lake – wow it’s good to be back on the water
Kettle on and hot choc’y was the order of the day
Beautiful Lough Derg, even in winter

A short visit, but it seemed as if we’d been there for a few days. We met only one other boat at she was from our home marina
