ICC

I can tell you that both Poros and Aegina port police dont give a toss and are not interested in ICC the same position that they have taken for the last 19 years ......

But, as has been said many times, just because one port in Greece says something it doesn't follow that they all will. I have been asked for my 'driving licence' in Preveza and in Katakolon.

The lady at Katakolontold me last year that I need to check-in when I arrive before any crew can go ashore and when I intend to leave, report to their office two hours before departure to check out, keeping everyone on board for the two hours and provided that officers havn't visited the boat in that time, then and ONLY then can I depart.

I think that she usually only dealt bwith Panamanian registered cruise ships!

Thanks for digging that out Toad. Very useful. 8 deaths (all by drowning) related to motor cruisers, sail cruisers, and tenders to these vessels in that year. And several of them probably rescue-able if there had been a boarding ladder which could have been lowered from the water, or a buoyancy aid being worn.

If you read the MAIB reports over time and the RNLI/MCA statistics it is not difficult to find the recurring themes. Then you understand why those organisations put their efforts into some simple things - wearing lifejacket, staying clipped on (although not without its own problems), using kill cords where appropriate and having an effective means of calling for assistance. There was a recent detailed study on drownings which reckoned that over 150 lives could have been saved if lifejackets had been worn.

Yes. Saw that. Lifejackets would have saved many lives. Perhaps better advice would specify "a suitable flotation device", since it's not possible to swim any distance with many lifejackets.
