ICC: What's the actual 24m limit?

A little update on this...

I am now in Antibes, home of the Couach 28m that sparked off this thread's question. The agent told me today it's just been sold... oh well. I'm not too sad because I think I would have run into trouble at some point. I can imagine explaining to a boat full of med police how to measure and calculate "LLL" to squeeze under 24m...

However agent was quick to point me to an SS predator 72, also lying in Antibes, and I must say it's quite gorgeous... Swmbo thinks so too... I'll check it out next week (quite likely though I won't buy a boat until I have a clear route to sell my ABS 45).

I'm in Antibes too at the mo. Which berth is the Couach on?

And which pred72? I know the history of many here. I'd guess it's st. otillien - that's a very well cared for boat since new, never neglected.

I don't know (because she's sold now so I didn't get to see her).

Yes, it's St Otillien. I haven't seen her yet (will try during the week). However she has the short version of the garage which I'm not as keen on as the full garage version. There is a predator 72 with the long garage for sale back in Mallorca (2008, white hull, but significantly more $$ than this one here in Antibes).

I'm just outside Antibes (Saint Paul de Vence, 15 mins up in the hills). Are you here for long enough to meet up for a coffee? (I'd love to pick your brains on these boats!)

On my way back to UK now but I'm in Antibes every 2nd weekend or so. My boat is about 10 places to St Otillien's starboard side. Drop by for coffee/beer any saturday morning when I'm there

I didn't appreciate the garage size thing on p72s. I do know that St Otill is very well polished and looked after by pro captain and the owner is on most summer weekends, but the boat gets light low mileage local use mostly. She's in very good nick and definitely recommended. I've been berthed on same quai since St Otill was delivered new so have seen her loads

Let me know when you're down in SofF next :)

I'm here for a few months so I may take that invite up! (I normally spend much of the winters here, as winters here are milder than the Balearics. I head back to Mallorca each spring).

I prefer a bigger garage on Opens, not just for the convenience of storing the tender and a lot more junk, but also because big garage = big sunbed. There's nothing I like better than lounging on the stern sunbed at anchor watching the world go by with a bit of shade from the cockpit sunshade (whereas on the bow sun cushions one just gets fried).

Ah, ok, I see the difference between the two verisons

I'm not expert on pred72 but I recall that the small garage versions have an arrangement whereby the aft bench seat converts into a full 6 foot long sunpad. I'm pretty sure this is how Magnum's 2008 pred 72 was set up. There will be pics in his posts back in 2008. Also, despite the "small" garage, he still fitted an Avon 320 jet and a Williams 325 (not at the same time!) in there, and there was a big rack to store all the fenders above the RIB

The benefit of the small garage version was the better lunch table iirc

Let's fix for a coffee/chat next time I'm in Antibes. I'll let you know

EDIT: I found the pics...

Here is the small garage p72 MAGNUM with much bigger better lunch/deck area than the large garage version

And here it is in sunbed mode

Finally here is a pic of the seatback fold mechanism with very nice cranked arms so that the cushioned surface is all nice and flat in "bed" mode

So maybe St Otill would be perfect for you?

But you probably have a lot more friends/family than me :) My usual entourage fits easily round the smaller triangular table of the large garage version and the girls love large sunbeds.

I went to see St Ottilien this afternoon. She's very tidy, almost immaculate. Just the style we like. Sat at the helm and opened the roof and side window, felt very open. Very clean engine room, williams jet looked almost unused. I still have a preference for the larger garage version, but St Ottilien is hard to beat so I'm now having a serious think about it. I have to factor in that my berth is in Mallorca, so whatever I buy here in SoF I have to sail home, or get it sent there.

(not for sale, but there's a large garage version p72 with a white hull on the same quay as St Ottilien, opposite side).

Also wandered further down the quay and had a look at Match too, very nice! Chap with white hair was on board busy cleaning.

Good to hear all that. Yup, I wasn't kidding when I said St Ott is well cared for. It's polished to within an inch of it's life as Henryf on here would say. Every week! Fabulous condition

Getting it to mallorca is a total walk in the park for that boat. Just go, prob via Mahon or Toulon depending on fuel range. The boat is so sound and cared for I'd check the oil and fuel and turn the keys and go.

Thanks for Match kind comments. I'm en route to Gatwick and arrive at Match 21.45pm local time tonight (hence the cleaning!), whereupon I shall get changed and meet Jimmy the builder for a beer. Feel free to join us. Just text, I'll pm you my mobile

I already posted this on another thread, but wanted to reach as manny interested parties as possible, so apologies for double posting this.

I just bumped into this after a search on LLL in a Sunseeker 30m document:
"With its highly versatile design, the 30 Metre Yacht is perfect for both private operation and uncomplicated charter. Despite her name she slips just within the 24-metre load-line ruling and optional MCA charter Category 2 classification, this way avoiding the more costly and complicated LY2 certification and crew requirements."

This actually surprised me, but I asume this to be correct as I believe we must asume that the legal department at SS has aproved of such a statement prior to putting it into the brochure.
