I have got plans to pop over to France, St Malo and around that area. Also likely to go up the Rance river. What is the chance of being asked for the ICC? I just have not had the time this year to complete the certificate course.
Is it an absolute essential?

Its Murphy's 1st Law that if you don't have it you will need it. You run the risk by not having one of having the boat held until you can find a crew member who has got one, as well as a hefty fine.

Has anyone here been asked for the ICC?
I take your point about Murphys Law, but Im planning to leave next Thursday. If Im more likely to get struck by lightening, then I will take a chance and go.

As I said on another thread last week, last summer I was asked for my ICC (with CEVNI) once during my 8 weeks in the French canal system.

AFAIK it is not required for coastal work but is required for river/canal work.

If you can guarantee that you will not become invoilved in any dispute with anyone, lock keeper, VFN white van man, other river user, then quite possibly you would get away with it but you never know...............

Enjoy your trip.
