And I am worried by question 10 on the application.....

10. SIGNATURE OF APPLICANT
I declare that I am over 16 and mentally and physically fit

Well I am over 16 years old, but I am also registered disabled. I wish to sail off within the next 12 months and realise I am going to need some paperwork to back me up.

Can anyone who knows clarify physically fit? As the skipper I don't actually have to haul sails / anchor etc. James T Kirk never got out of his throne when skippering the Enterprise and neither does the old man on a merchant vessel. Why do I need to be 'physically' fit and would the RYA hold this against me.

I am not wheelchair bound and can do everything required aboard a cruising sailing vessel, yet I could not sign this application without lying about my health. Am I really not eligible, I am sure I am still more able than many 65+ year olds sailing around the Med.

I feel a human rights violation here, how can I sign this piece of paper.

Why not talk to RYA? I know that they take an active interest in sailing for the disabled and would be more than happy to help.

Jools, I reckon that you are reading too much into this. Phone them up and talk to them (and your insurance company). No discrimination here - just bad wording.

BTW - didn't see "Top Cat" this weekend, but I seem to remember you saying you were out sailing?

Also - see my post about being "told off" on my approach to the marina. Cheers.
Dave.

Litigate!

Get free legal representation, and tie up the courts for at least ten years. Of course you will have to postpone any thoughts of sailing, and need to buy much more storage space for the papers!
