Ibiza Cruise from Sant Carles

Thanks, Peter

I've been racing in the same bay as these Tri's.
It was a few years ago at Carnac - we were racing my Hurricane with about 300 other cats - the Trimarans were out from La Trinite - very impressive when you see about half a dozen of them together.

Thanks for putting your report up Mike, some of the bays looked very nice indeed. I tried some 'pootling' the other day, 'Houston' seemed to fair best at about 7 knots though, Jane really enjoyed the lack of pace and the new ruling is that we should do more.

Was the video on the large tri s' showing 41 Knots or kmh? Cos that's impressive in either case.

Still keep 'em coming always nice to see dream locations (for most of us) on here. ;)

Good Morning Rog

OK so now, perhaps, we should convince Derek about "pootling" - I think he (kind of) liked it on the run down to Tunisia when we HAD to do it - I remember him relaxing on the bow with Jimmy. I think they both got bored in the end though.

Pootling is an attitude of mind - and in the Med its much easier to find thos calm days when time isnt the driving force - more people should try it - its very relaxing. On our last crossing, SWMBO ran the boat and I pottered about doing some maintenance things. The flybridge cooler needed a bit of TLC so I took it apart and fixed it but you could quite easily have a comfortable meal or BBQ whilst travelling at that speed.

Whereas running at this speed, it's difficult to operate in the galley.
Remember this?

Hi Mike
''pootling'' definitely has its place, it's just that I'm not sure where it is ;);)
Just recently I have been running at 18/20 knots to enjoy the passage, i suspect also in the back of my mind (wallet) is the lower fuel consumption:D:D
I do find it very relaxing at that speed and makes the trip that much more enjoyable. I was surprised this weekend when even 'Houston' stayed behind me instead of flying past at breakneck speed:):)
I think maybe the next cross channel trip I will give ''pootling'' a try and see the results ( ie see how long it is before I bring her up to speed)

With hindsight I think I may have subconsciously liked the ''pootling'' on the leg down to Malta, pity we didn't 'pootle'' all the way and we could have missed the delights of Tunisia :mad:

OK then - so just for the record

I remember it as being very pleasant - in fact lately I've taken to doing some very slow-speed stuff in Vega on one engine at 2.5kts. (You remember we lost an engine at Yarmouth last year, and had to run back to Soton on one engine? So my hour clocks got all out of sync. At least, they were until I started this single-engine running ... pipe down at the back there, you ocd-accusers (you know who you are :D)).

Pootling's actually quite pleasant, although I do keep getting taken by surprise by the raggies overtaking me...

Cheers
Jimmy
