I wish the Japanese were boating mad and sailing was the most popular sport in Japan because if they were then.....
I would be able to get at a reasonable price a single screen mounted above the companionway that would multi display radar, gps, log, depth, forward depth, windspeed and direction,also chartplotter. It would also incorporate the VHF/DSC radio, EPIRB, AIS and Navtex
There would be a repeater at the chart table for all this. It would all be wireless so no cables to thread or holes in the boat. As a single piece of kit there would be no interface problems.
It would all be utterly reliable with no moving parts, all solid state, no log impellors or spinning egg cups at the mast. There would be one aerial and one Radome.
All the technology exists, why cant someone drag it all together into one black box and a viewable in all conditions flat screen.
Or do we just have to hope the Japanese take up sailing big time.
