It's a shame, but I reckon the real reason why there's such a divide between us raggies and you stinkpotters is a bit like the foxhunting thing. We're jealous. Of course we shout at you when you steam past at half a million knots, but at the end of the day a boat's a boat and theres no reason why everyone shouldn't get on. I'm sure that all these traditional clog clad beardy salty types would shave and shop for evermore at Fatface if they actually had a chance to zoom around themselves for a bit. I mean, it looks fun.

Goodness me, aren't I having an honest day? I spect I'll be ostracised, blackballed from scuttlebutt etc.

So, in my role as the first tentative ambassador between you and us, can I have a go on one of your boats please? ;-)

As per Paulines reply - more than welcome on MVII (Chichester based) - but I wouldn't mind a go on yours in return <G>

Hi Barry, if you remember you kindly gave me your list of waypoints between Dover and Chichester, so I'm already indebted. Mind you, haven't actually used them yet, it seems to have been blowing t*ts since Christmas! My word, arent you stinkies a hospitable lot, I could be converted. You can have a go on mine but it's in Cornwall and I never seem to get a chance to get down there at the moment.

Cheers

Re: true stinkpotting

fairey huntress is quite dubious as a true stinkpot, really? As is any boat with wood on the outside other than teak deck. A real stinkpot has a flybridge and plenty of smoke coming out of the back, everyone sitting on the top and looking around at all, autopilot on and courses plotted as follows:

a) from the portsmouth/chichester marina (good access from london, see) as direct to cowes marina as possible still planing up until the rys speed limit sign, this route to be taken during a saturday morning whilst commenting how many sailing yachts there seem to be, and they're all the same, how boring, and we almost had to turn to avoid one of them.

b) From cowes direct up the beaulieu river, only coming off the plane at the river mouth, and then shouting at some awkward sailboat to explain that we are obeyiong the speed limits, do think they own the place?

c) from beaulieu river to alum bay, bit of peace and quiet.

d) later on the saturday, direct from alum bay to yarmouth, coming off the plane at the entrance after going through all the moorings outside yarmouth to stay the night. On the way in there was some flippin yacht going round in circles, didn't seem to know what on earth he was doing with sails half up or half down andf he gave us some verbal, so wheeled around to explain the rules of the road to him, hah, we've been coming here for for years.

e) on Sunday late afternoon, direct back to Portsmouth/chichester, just follow the other boats, reducing to 12knotsish inside harbour pulling a massive wake, but as long we aren't planing that'll be okay, and look at that that sailboat on the mooring buoy just back there , the guy is up the mast is waving at us, wonder what he's doing, probably doing it for a bet.

you're most welcome on our stinkboat (fairline P42) if you're in Lymington. You can help me with rules of the road and protocols on dealing with the blimmin Yarmouth ferry. PM off here if you're around anytime. BTW I'm a raggie too, well 50:50 stink/rag, I sail a Jeanneau (sorry, not very traditional) out of Lymington
