Hi

I want to slave a chart plotter picture with own position onto a large TV screen. I'm told that so long as the plotter has an output this should be possible?

Anyone done this, know how to do it or what plotter might be suitable?

Thanks
Homa

You need a chart plotter which has a VGA output which you can input to a TV/computer screen. I do not know any that does this but some of the newer one like the Raymarine E series might. Otherwise use plotter software onto a laptop with an external VGA output.

You can get converters for most of types of video. I use a SCART to VGA converter to display TV on a monitor, which I also use to display VGA direct from a PC for plotter software. Depends on what you have available from your plotter to convert to either SCART (for TV) or to VGA for monitor.

own position onto a TV

Thanks for the replies so far.

I don't have any plotter yet.

I have the TV and want to display a chart with own position, that's it. No planning, and it will not be used for navigation.

Just want to know what I need to get this easily and simply displayed onto a TV screen.

Cheers

Re: own position onto a TV

You need to see what ouputs are available on various makes of plotters. I assume your TV has a SCART socket? In which case you will need to convert your plotter output to SCART. Most plotters I have seen do not have any sort of standard video output ............. but no doubt comeone will correct me!! E.G. my Raymarine 435 does not have any video outputs at all.
If you had plotter software on a PC then it is relatively easy to get it onto a TV.

Garmin GPSMAP 3006c Colour GPS Chartplotter

This plotter has a VGA output; if you do a Google search for VGA to SCART ( and Comp Video, S-Video)converter you will find quite a few available for around 50 euros.

So, it is possible and it seems that most Garmin have a VGA output.
