in fact gut instinct isnt a very good indicator, apparently. Its just very very marginally better than 50pct (so I was lectured at LBS).
Apart from the misunderstanding about quite which confidence I'd lost, I think the point is that it is just confidence- nothing superior. That might be rightly or wrongly placed. Still,I would rather go into such a transaction with it /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
I remember entering our first lock the first time out with our second boat (26ft cruiser - previous one was a 18ft bowrider which was very easy to handle). Almost dropped my best friend in the water when reversing with him standing on the foredeck trying to tie us up with a rope, then finally we got attached at the bow but not at the stern. Doors were already shut meanwhile and current coming from behind started turning the boat 180 degrees so when the doors opened up again, we faced again the way we were just coming from. Needless to say there was some amusement on board as well as on the other boats (thank god there were not many around). I managed to turn (in the lock !!) and escaped ... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
then somebody told me that a single rope at the middle cleat is all one needs. Since then, have never been embarrased any more.
Now have recently upgraded to 37ft which again I tie using one (thicker) rope in the middle. Having bowthruster and twin engines, find it is even less difficult now. So key message : get a bigger boat /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
As far as financing is concerned ... there's too much doomthinking around here lately ... Either you can afford it or you can't but everybody has a spending limit. As long as you remember this and accept that there will always be guys with bigger boats than yours, then spend your money as wisely as possible but don't over-reationalize. After all, we know it is not the best investment around !
We have clocked up 25 hours in one month with our new boat and so far, it's been worth it !

Quite right Moody - we worked out long ago there are no pockets in a shroud.
Sod working all hours just to leave it all behind - the kids would only blow it on something frivolous (like a boat) anyway /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Excellent! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I have to agree, we are looking at a change now too. It's all for fun anyway and if you value the fun and time on the boat it's worth it. If you're too worried about the cost and depreciation, buy some golf clubs.
Life is too short and 'tomorrow is promised to no man' waiting for Spring is not the way forward in my book, if the boat is good and the deal is good. "go for it!" and don't worry.
