Re: I thought that \"Europe\" was about fairness?

"a basically good idea - the EC "

Presumably you really mean the EU - European Union.

As opposed to the Common Market that we originally joined on the basis that is would enable member countries to trade amongst themselves without barriers. You know, like selling British beef to the French.

No-one mentioned at the time that the idea was a European State - That was the intention according to Ted Heath but of course he omitted to mention it at the time.

"The Commission frequently complains about the silly and impractical way we implement Euro regs into British Law"

They more often appear to delight in overuling British Law in the European Courts. How exactly are we supposed to "implement" regulations if not by the rule of law? Do you really mean ignore what we don't like as other seem to do. If so what is the point of having European Law overule British Law?

"something in common with the French and the Krauts and the Dutch. We have very little in common with the Greeks"

Not entirely clear what you mean by this, are you saying that the EU should be organised on a racial basis? I would have thought that our relations with Greece were at least as good as those with France, probably better.

As for asylum seekers I do not think we have anything to learn from the EU, was it really a coincidence that the French built their biggest facility for asylum seekers at their end of the Channel Tunnel. This country has a record of giving asylum to refugees that is better than almost any other country on Earth, certainly better than most of the other countries of the EU, many of them having a track record of creating refugees rather than giving them asylum.
