We made an offer on a boat yesterday, the broker has just phoned, it's been accepted (well, we had to come up another £1K and he didn't want any quibbling post survey subject to the usual T's & C's)
So, assuming all goes well, we've got a new (to us) one! :D

Following the stonking success we enjoyed with our last little outdrive equipped Fairline, the new vessel obviously had to be a Fairline too. But, we've sadly had to move away from outdrives due to my now obsessive hatred for them which has been carefully nurtured over the last couple of Years of owning one...

So, cut to the chase, it's a 1989 Turbo 36 running TAMD61A's.
Nice condition, the engine bay was glistening with new filters, the lumps themselves were clean enough to eat your dinner off and all around the boat were the little signs of a careful owner.
I didn't really have much else to go on, being so new to the whole boating scene, but it looked like a much loved boat.

So, for my inevitable question...
Can anyone recommend a surveyor based around the Thames? I also need a separate mechanicals survey, so any recommendations would be appreciated for that too.
As I had such a disastrous time with my last boat, I want to be as careful as I can with a potential new purchase!

Well done Murv and hope you have many happy times aboard. As for a surveyor, I was really impressed with Martin Pittilo. 07901 550408 who did the survey on my current boat. Very thorough and explained all the boats systems to me whilst he carried out the inspection.

Hey Murv, welcome back,I was going to ask old git to send out a search party for you:)
Congratulations on the boat, you know it makes sense!!

Exciting times Murv, and i know i'm biased but great choice of boat. Although i have the Sedan 36, it is the same hull as the Turbo 36 with same engines, Tamd61a. Originally (in 2012) i was after a Turbo 36, and viewed half a dozen. In the end decided on Sedan 36 as love the cockpit space, but the aft cabin on the Turbo is amazing, proper home from home stuff.
Afraid i cant answer your direct questions for surveyor recommendations in Thames area, but i would guess well recommended surveyors are prepared to travel, use search facility on Motorboat forum to see who are recommended.

You may have already seen the below posts if you've previously used the search facility, but if not, makes encouraging reading that their a great boat. Good luck with it all, and all being well the surveys will be glitch free.

Superb, thanks for that :) He's one of the surveyors mentioned by the marina so I'll give him a try first.

Ha! Yes, sorry, I've been a bit quiet on here.
I've been incredibly busy with work, and when we missed out on the last club cruise because the outdrive packed up yet again we got really fed up with the thing.
We had a great holiday on it in the Summer, cruised all the way up to Tonbridge which is something we'd always wanted to do and knew that it would be out of bounds on a bigger boat.
But, we've done it now, and it's time to move on :)
Have been quietly looking in the background, and hoping this return will be a bit more successful!

Wonderful, thanks for those :) I think I've actually read most of them over the last few Months (I've been researching HARD!!) it really is difficult to find a single negative comment about that fairline hull with the 306's :)
We actually did exactly the same as you, I've always loved the look of the TS37, I think it's a stunning looking boat, even now.
But, looking at one on Saturday (it even had Volvo's) confirmed it for me. Although the forward cabin is slightly better for our needs than the T36, it just feels a little too cluttered everywhere else and is just too much of a compromise.
I was absolutely blown away the first time I ever stepped on a turbo, and I've not found anything else that comes close to fitting our needs as perfectly as the Fairline seems to :)
One thing your threads did highlight when I read through them in that order, is that I need to get the legend who is Volvo Paul to do the mechanical survey!

Thanks again, I will, of course, keep you all posted as to how it goes.

Yep, Paul is a top bloke, really knows his stuff.

If purchase goes well, PM me with your email address and I can forward you Pdf copies of the engine manuals (if you dont already have them). Engines are nice and easy to do the basic servicing, with all parts being basic service items or more complex easily available (though prices of certain special parts can be scary :) )

I will certainly do that, thanks Jon, that's very much appreciated :)

In for a Penny.....Hope you got your name down for the cruise to West India.
Does this mean you are going to have to get rid of the rest of your collection of boats.
Good idea to speak to the mooring master ASAP and get your name on the bigger boat list.
Let me know if you want some company to get it back. OG.
Ps...what are these outdrives of which you speak :)

Thanks Fred :)
I'm going to thin the boats out a bit, so Kelly Rose will be (unsurprisingly) for the chop.
It seems the ideal number of boats to have is n-1 where n=the number of current boats and that ideal value being 0.
But, 2 is (just) manageable.
We haven't got our name down for any cruises just yet, as we managed to break down for every other one over the last couple of Years, it seemed a very hollow gesture to keep adding our names to the lists.
We've already added our names to the bottom of the very lengthy waiting list for a slightly larger mooring, so fingers crossed for some point in the future...

And, outdrives? never heard of 'em ;)
