whats the closest you can get to Wolverhampton on from the sea?, i guess its the Severn but how far up can you get in a lets say a 27 foot motor boat with 1m draft
All the way, use Gloucester & Sharpness Canal. Then on to River Severn and then Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal. Awful lot of locks though, if memory serves 39. have fun
if you are heading for the channel, then its the Grand Union canal to the Thames, and out to sea on very good weather from there. Nicholson ordnance (looks like a spelling mistake but thats what it says on the book) guide to the waterways are very good obtainable from W H Smith.
Know lots that have done this on cruisers or narrowboats, but whilst on the thames = raft up !!!
Narrow canals are restricted to 6'6" (2m) beam - less if you want to use fenders! There are also some height restrictions so you will need to keep a moderate air draft too. 1m water draft should be OK in most canals, but it only takes one shopping trolley or bike to cause a problem.
Isn't the max size 6ft 10ins on the narrow canal network? If my memory serves me correctly, it is.
However, my memory does not do this too often /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
think its 7'2'' but some of the older locks have bellowed inward so 6'10'' is the modern safe standard.
intersting if i can get from stoutport to the sea, only down side is i bet that then it inland waterways with safty certificate and a licence to pay for
would be nice if i could get mooring stourport os even soputh of there, get sick of driving.
thx all
depends where in wolverhampton you start there are 21 locks in a mille and half if you start on the birmingham canal lol
that was a day i not forget in a hurry
The other down side is. When you arrive at the sea from Stourport. You have arrived at the most inhospitable and dangerous sea in the country and your nearest safe harbour can be 60 miles away. And no you cant go back, because the tide went out.
