Should it be 'waypoints' or 'weighpoints' as in weighing anchor?

waypoint as in pointing the way - at least that's what I thought and thats how the GPS spells it!

How about 'way' as on the way to somewhere. You don't generaly drop anchor at a 'waypoint' as you are not there yet ie destination.
