I Need Some Injectors Replacing.

never know an injector to make any difference in power (but im mainly in the truck world) My last pickup had 4 duff injectors and was remapped to give another 30 BHP, apart from rattle every now and then it was fine.

The truck i have now has just had 2 new injectors at a cost of £1000 for parts to the dealer (under warranty) and either needs 2 more or the 2 new ones are duff:rolleyes: I have been on the rolling road and there is no power loss, when chipped there is the expected power increase, no smoke standard or chipped.

If its smoking i would be inclined to look elsewhere, blocked EGR valve, clean the MAF sensor, clean the air filter and change fuel supplier if an option. I know a boat will float and my truck will sink, but im sure the engines share the majority of technology:D

MF smokes because she has to appear in pantomimes and stuff. It's about getting more smoke not less. She's famous for it.

You've never seen a rocket ship leaving eath without a bit of smoke.

Why should Mucky Farter.

I think we reached a point where performance and economy took some good steps forward, then in many cases went too far. I run a 1.9TDi Passat at the moment, good all round car, engine pretty much bullet proof, not so the newer 2.0 engine. The Renault 1.9 DTi was bullet proof, the newer DCi engine is rubbish. There's a long list.

It is clear that modern high speed diesels are more highly stressed that the good old sluggers, and they make great automotive engines. SWMBO and I have Beemers with 2.0 diesels, both brilliant, clean, economical, reliable, with minimal, although expensive servicing. These are highly developed and tested during their engineering, as most engines are. Having worked in the auto industry all my career, I know how much effort goes in to these things. However, the testing environment cannot cover all eventualities of real world motoring, which is why things get shown up sometimes. There is much more simulation these days, as in the good old days, you often ended up with the "Trigger's Brush" syndrome. Same car, but had been through 3 engines and 4 transmissions during its test cycle, putting on miles for smiles. My expectation is in the boaty world, the testing is nowhere near so thorough. I don't know the boaty equivalent if MIRA/Millbrook/Nardo etc. Most testing will be on a test bed, with the early adopters doing the validation in their lovely new mobo's.

I agree that manufacturers seem under pressure to compete. They definitely release stuff before testing it, i think we do the testing. Many of the newer common rail diesels are just not as reliable as the older engines. My boat has a Toyota based engine, from the pre D4D Landcruiser, mechanical pump, olde worlde injectors etc. No ECU or high pressure pumps to go wrong. The later generation car engines are a pain in the bum, slightest bit of dirt and they die. If you don't have a computer and several £££££'s of software you can't even find what's gone wrong.

I have an OBDII reader and an app for the iphone, while it wont make things as clear to me as Nissans reader it does show me all the codes and give me the ability to clear them (they charge about £45 just to clear them:eek:)

It also shows me torque, EGT temp, oil temp etc etc. I owned a Pug 205 or 209, they change so often lol, the small hatchback thing. That was an oil burner, noisy as the mrs on a bad day, had to floor it to move, fill it with oil every five mins...but yes it was a good motor, mind you back then the deisel used to freeze or mush up a lot easier:eek::D

The new injectors are apparently not appearing till the 14th Nov. Who would expect there car or truck out of action for a month or two. Could they afford it.?? Do they have another one on stand by.?

Yet a boat gets it's injectors taken out. It was some how working quite well before with six duff injectors.? It dont work at all now. It has no injectors.

So. If advised that your injectors might need fixing???? It dont matter to me, I cant use the boat anyway.
