Don't want to go into detail on these forum pages for obvious reasons. Suffice to say I could do with some legal advice. I think I need a specialist, so maybe I just need someone to tell me how I go about finding a particular type of lawyer.

I feel sure that there must be at least one east coast lawyer on on the forum, maybe more, so I would be very grateful if someone is able to help me.

Good Luck Bernie ;)

Hi Bernie why not put in the lounge much more coverage & not open to the Gen public

worth a quick call to your local Citizens Advice Bureau. They offer a quick free piece of legal advice, before passing you onto a legal specialist.

Do you need a solicitor or a lawyer? Most law firms have specialist solicitors within their ranks who will deal with specific subjects and in turn the specialist solicitors will have access to specialist lawyers who they will call upon if the issue requires greater horsepower or attendance at tribunal etc.
Do some on-line research relating to your specific issue and once you locate a suitable firm just give them a call because invariably you will get your first half hour appointment free.
If you do need a lawyer it will cost you as they never do a "no win no fee deal" unlike solicitors, so choose carefully who you get to fight your corner, you may only get one chance so get the best.

I'd agree with the Law Society if you have a specific problem they can recommend a specialist legal firm.
In most civil cases, in my humble experience, the only real winners are the lawyers. Even if you get awarded costs any additional award that you keep is not worth the time and effort that you will probably put into preparing your case. Think hard before you use a lawyer, unless you are being sued and then some legal advice may be useful.

Bernie - depends on how much of a specialist you need... many provincial firms are jacks of all trades with a major in conveyancing and wills with a bit of commercial work thrown in. You may need to go into one of the bigger towns to find specialist e.g. contract / family law / defamation etc. practitioners

The law society's website allows you to search for a particular field of specialism - contact a firm and ask them to set out their credentials - perhaps even take a reference from another client.

Bernie

there is a specialist firm in Peterborough, they deal with business litigation etc, they are the only specialist for miles.

If you need their details ill dig them out

Law Society

Go through the Law Society as other posts suggests. Using generic solicitors can cost more in the long run. For many specialist areas solicitors have to appear on certain 'panels' For example matters in relation to children require solicitors to appear on the children's panel and so on.
