I May Buy A Small Boat Today

Ok.
Went up to the Solway Firth, North of Maryport and convinced myself this would be worth investing in.

It's a Dockrell 17. An open ballasted centreboard sloop with a fractional rig. It comes with a grp cuddy and also has a new and not yet fitted sprayhood on a S/S frame.

There is no outboard but it came on a decent trailer (apart from the comedy wooden mudguards). The mast and boom are in good condition. The two sails are in good condition and the headsail has Plastimo reefing (406S)

Sweet! Approval noises...

Very good. That would have been a deal breaker.
It's sail number is 205 which makes it the last but one boat made, in 1990, it seems.

Lakesailor,

what are your plans for launch / recovery, or will she be on a mooring ?

Strikes me the optimum would be a whip mooring, with an endless line around a block on the lakebed so she could be brought in / sent out; but I bet there are a zillion rules against it...

Absolutely. Wash you mouth out.

Initially I will float my boat using the Council slipway at Ferry Nab.
It's expensive costing about £20 including car and trailer parking
I can buy a local rate discount pass for 10 launches (Local residents 10 launch pass (25% discount) Charge (inc vat): £93.75) and the car and trailer parking is £10 for the day (it says £12.50 on their website but all is not as it seems). So it would cost me £19.37 per day launch in total.
Compared to having a swinging mooring at about £500 (local rates) and up to £200 for a tender landing that means I could sail from Ferry Nab every week for the season (35 times) as cheaply.

If I sail "from home" I can go to Ullswater, Coniston, Derwent Water or even Morecambe Bay from the Walney Channel at Barrow in Furness.

Other than that I would dry sail from a shoreside landing site. Security is a bit of a problem at most lakeside boat storage areas.

Looks good,I like the cuddy, not entirely sure about that spray hood.

Nice workmanlike lines, should be fun.

i think those mudguards are splendid.

I doubt that I will use either the cuddy or the spray hood.
Getting on the foredeck would be a nightmare.

The hood is to the original spec, see here.

Very nice boat.

I think they were based on a old Navy design (could be wrong though).

Dockrell were a funny old set up, they were in American ownership and rubbed along making a stretched version of the old Deb 33 - the Dockrell 37. They also had a 26 with a long keel. Your day sailor was the prettiest of the bunch.
