Well to cut a long story short, had a great 5 hour trip cruising around Carnarvon bay etc then stopped at entrance to Pwllheli and got fenders out/warps ready etc for berthing.
Arrived at berth and decided a bit above my wind limit so nipped back out of harbour, to wait for wind to drop a bit
Whilst out decided to practice maneuvering skills on a buoy, as starboard engine was lazy at going into fwd drive (since sorted)
During this maneuvering, port engine stopped.......didn't think anything of it, so out of gear start engage fwd ....stop dead.........did this a few times (yeah I know big mistake) eventually had to force control to get into neutral, an realized had a big problem.
Limped back into marina, with stbd engine (that was lazy at going in and out of gear) and managed to get onto the fuel pontoon, where Andy spotted that the bow line was wrapped around the fwd prop, and under some considerable tension.....Line cut and towed onto berth.
Lift out and removed props, fwd prop and ring anode bent, and damage to prop shafts, where seals go.
I hoped the frangible vertical shaft joint had broken, but on strip down the shaft had broken cleanly just above! as the shafts are matched, we had to replace all of them
Photos below. So lessons learn't..........
1 .If Eng stops dead, it may not be the engine!
2. Ensure ropes/warps etc are secure, and check again!
