When Dr Brownlee commisioned 'Flaxedil' in 1950, he paid the princely sum of around £2,200. I've often wondered what this would equate to in 'modern' money.

Just out of interest, her next owner (as far as I know) was Felix Thornley of Darlington who renamed her 'Escapade', and this was the name she bore when Pat Jones bought her in 1967. He wanted to register her as a 'British ship', so had to find a unique name for her, hence 'Cygnus Vedrae'. A later buyer gave her the name 'Timeless', which I hated. We were out of the water in 2007 for more that 5 months (the floods) and decided to re-christen her 'C V', at the time believing that this was her original name.

£56200 (30 seconds on Google to get the Bank of England inflation calculator)

To put it into real perspective in relation to other assets, my parents bought their house in 1947 for £1100 and we sold it when my mother died in 2004 for £156000.

Shows you how rich people had to be to afford to buy a modest boat in 1950.
