I looked into creating a Facebook account shortly after their appearance but happened to read their Terms & Conditions in the process.

No, thank you. Will not accept!
The only data required to create a FB account is your name, date of birth and email address. I doubt the T&C's are any more onerous than the ones you signed up to when you joined this forum.

I have a FB account solely to follow and contribute to groups.

It’s not my real name, it’s not my real DOB and it’s a dummy iCloud email.

Who
-makes the most money from profiling/selling/marketing/linking users?
-enforces their own definition of "being social" on users?
-cross link you all over the web by enabling you to log in everywhere by using your FB account?
-was the reason for GDPR to be created due to not respecting data privacy?
-has explored AI to it's limits to capitalize on users?
-has gone to bed with Google and Amazon to harvest combined benefits?
-has caused creation of browser add-ons to specifically block their tracking of users even when not browsing their own domain?
-was fined €17m for breaching EU data privacy laws?
-was fined €110m for providing incorrect or misleading information re. acquisition of WhatsApp.
and the story goes on..

Same response to all.. was it YBW or FB?

The reality is that very little of what you quoted has an adverse affect on FB users. That's why there's nearly 3 billion of them.

As I've said before, FB Groups are now way more popular than forums which partly explains why this group has diminishing activity.

……….for over 15 years but am disappointed by the way monitors dictate what people can and can’t post and cast aspersions about a post without any questions asked and just delete it.
I may never come here again and am cancelling my magazine subscriptions in the morning.
This forum, sadly, ain’t what it used to be.
Sorry to hear this Iain. All the best

To be fair I see the magazine as the magazine and the forum as a free to use forum. The two aren’t linked in my mind.

As for investment in the forum it’s a small niche corner of the internet. I suspect Elon Musk is some way from approaching the owners with an offer ?

Ultimately it’s down to the people who post and I will say that many of the posts quickly descend to either a toxic rant or an off topic technical rabbit warren which may or may not be factually correct.

Every now and again there’s a useful bit of boating stuff in there but for the most part I find myself on specialist facebook groups these days.
