I have buggered up my back/spine

We have 7 deep cycle batteries. Well two of them went down and needed to be constantly charged. They were all over 5 years old. Anyway we ordered 7 new ones and they were delivered from UK to us in CRETE. It took me most of the day to undo all the wires and remove the 7 old ones. Then of course to replace with the new ones,

Lovely - job done BUT now with all the lifting dragging carrying, my lower back is in pain. I am on the pain killers and now wearing a back support belt

The good batteries are slowly going to new homes (the ones that were OK)

I read recently that thinking in medical circles is that the ·inflaming" is a proper natural event and used by the body to assist in cureing the err inflamed bit.
 
Huge sympathy. Hope it is a one off and does not re-occur.

I did mine about six years ago; it does re-occur from time to time in varying degrees of severity.

The only thing which worked on the first occasion was Valium but the Doc only allowed two weeks worth.

Take it VERY easy in the future.
 
Bloody hell I can't assist anyone at the moment. Managed to go for a gentle walk today. All ready feeling a little better. Must say the the Anti-inflamatory tablets are doing wonders as well as a little stretching of the lower spine.

Yes, I do that by gently bending over to touch my toes but not going that far at first. The other thing I do to stop it coming back, after it gets better, is sit-ups take it easy to start with then 10 a day works. I was taking anti-inflammatories occasionally for a year before I worked out that regime and haven't taken any since.

I slipped a disc in the summer picking up a mooring resulting in a trapped nerve so can sympathise - gentle walking and swimming were recommended by the Doc though at the time I thought he was mad as I could hardly get out of bed and had no intention of swimming off the boat in Scottish waters. One thing that was absolutely useful were some exercises also recommended by a medic: http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/Backpain/Pages/sciatica-exercises.aspx - just did the lying down ones gently on my bunk once or twice a day or after a walk. Anyway three months later I've made a complete recovery except a little numbness in my left shin.
 
Thanks for the tips folks especially the link. I have also found that I have a boiling hot shower onto my lower back while doing the "try to touch my toes" exercise and knee bends
it is realy working. Each day I can feel the improvement.

As an ex long-term user of NSIADs, I'd warn any one that they all make holes in your gut and raise your blood pressure. Diclofenac is not as aggressive as some of the other COX2 inhibitors, such as eterocoxib or indometicin but still needs to be treated with respect.
One of the few occasions osteopaths seem to be able to perform effectively is on lower back pain. Warm baths are effective, using a drop handlebar bike and swimming are all alleged palliatives. (the last 2 build up muscle tone).
 
Once again thank you all for the tips/advice. I am pleased to report that I am no longer on the anti-inflamatory tabs. Just gentle stretching exercises and walks-more like strolls realy.

No more pain, only a slight ache.
