The conundrum in question is a 1977 28' cold moulded mahogany one off racer built to compete in the Isora series. Without boring people with the details of it falling off its cradle and being badly neglected for 10 years, it needs something doing with it. Do I sell it for its scrap value of keel, mast, rigging, winches etc. Do I invite Tom Cunliffe and camera crew round for a cup of tea and get on with the job or just put it in Exchange and mart as a work in progress. I really cannot make up my mind. It would be shame to break her but I havn't got the time she needs. suggestions please

if you ain't interested, sell it. I wd say it is worth much more a boat that sort of works (does it float?) than a pile of bits. Not great idea to go on the internet and say how it's all possibly a bit busted tho! PBO or boatsandoutboards or boatsand planes for sale are possible places to advertise.
 
Have any pictures?
Is it from a well respected designer?
Was it successful with its handicap, does it fit the quarter or half tonner rating?
Is it good looking....
A lot will depend on the cost of repair of course.
 
Still got holes in hull from when boatyard dropped it. 1/4 tonner, she needs redecking, engines in bits, a true basket case. she was quite successful especially against hunter impala's. she came from Jeffrey Woods office in Kent by a designer called Klaka. She was certainly very fast, in the words of a cruising friend on the helm for the first time when the sheets were hardened in 'oh S**T, slow down' She looked, in her heyday a million dollars, and I am sorry she is so neglected now.
 
Difficult to sell unless to a DIY loon like me.
Probably best to break it and get the gear onto ebay or the local boat jumble, but beware, I only got bids of a penny for the mast I put on sale!
As a fully functioning boat it would prob only fetch 5-10k realistically, and even then the tyre kickers would want to see a much more modern suit of sails, even if they are worn.
It also wont have a recent cert, so would cost the whole RORC amount to get it racing.
 
Take some flattering pics and put it on e-bay as a "project".
I went to see a boat nearby advertised with pics of it afloat and sailing and one of it on a trailer. It was a prototype mini-tonner. The ad mentioned that the forestay attachment had come away. The forestay had come away, along the with the stem. It was made of foam/ply sandwich which was sodden. Literally the best part of the deal were the tyres on the yard trailer.

It sold for nearly £400. ????????

Take the gear off and burn it.

Out of date as a racer, little use as a cruiser, impossible to repair economicallly.

The practical problem is that cold moulded boats need regular TLC. If rainwater has got into the laminates, via cracks where the damage occurred, then over ten years it will probably have wicked along the tiny voids in the structure and ended up in all sorts of places.

Shame as I actually rather like this sort of boat.

Why not post a piccy here if you really want it to go away?. Wish I had a barn. If I had a barn it would already be full of course....
One quick fix that comes to mind-without seeing the damage in a piccy-is to locate a nearby sister ship,take off a mould of the same area in grp and then use that to lay up new epoxy glass to(or more double diag wood if a purist),scarphed and tapered together with the old angle grinder,bingo,instant cheapo first boat for the kids?
