Past it several times on the way to the Folly, but never hung around long enough to work out what it is. Is there a budding Einstein who can describe its purpose (preferably in words of no more than 2 sylables)

Is that some sort of floating dry dock then ?

Outer bit looks a bit like a lock gate lying on its side.

I know they sometimes float them in then sink them into final position.

Funny you should ask, I wondered when passing a few weeks ago. I took it to be a larger version of those dry dock thingies they use for small racing yachts. Sort of flood it, sail in, then pump water out and up she goes!

I had a look today. Seems to be hinged on the land side. I assumed i was some form of dry docking/lifting thing-a-ma-bob for commercial stuff that floats around the medina
