The GPS 72 end is as follows:

When held with the GPS72 in the correct UPRIGHT position with the battery compartment 'D' lock ABOVE the plug, the POSITIVE is the TOP PIN and the NEGATIVE is the BOTTOM PIN.

The DATA OUT (brown lead) is the the LEFT PIN and the DATA IN (white lead) is to the RIGHT PIN.

This is the pin-out when looking INTO the GPS72 unit NOT at the plug.

Had a look at the charts now to see where Nathan is exactly, and having sailed the route he would have to go before, I wouldn't want to go for it in this weather either /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Best bet I would say is stay put for a while and let it calm down, then head for Walton Backwaters and take a break, then head up The Orwell and put in somewhere on the same side as Shotley and we can pick up on the way there next Friday night. I'm sure someone will have a spare berth for him to Oostende where he can buy us all a pint. Or more /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The Deben up at Woodbridge was very gusty, that was with the boat in it's cradle!

Wise decision, if there is any doubt always run for cover.

You assessed the risks as the situation evolved and took appropriate action. Routine stuff, no?

Before I took up sailing I used to do solo winter mountaineering/hill walking. There was the same number one objective: to get to be old. Getting to the top was the number two objective.

Real success is measured in the longer term than a single leg of a single trip.

Just to add to the list...

There is not a single one of us who haven't put out to sea, and then turned back, or dived into a port of refuge. Worth remembering..... anyone who thinks that your actions were unseamanlike is someone who I would most definitely NOT want to sail with.

As for the ridiculous (and very much in character) comments from Malaprop.... well... he might like to remember that Coribees have done some incredible passages over the years..... and also worth noting that in a previous incarnation on the forum he ended being so beligerent and offensive that he got himself banned. Maybe he's trying for another go?
 
Here he is, the world girdling sailor that is Malaprop, battling the winds and tides furiously in his sea going yacht. Here seen mulling over crucial nautical decisions, for the safe navigation through the Arundel Amazon, and protecting crew and passengers from failing advanced lexicography, even though unable to spell yachmaster (sic) himself. Malaprop, you are a plonker of the first water, a legend in your own lunchtime.
 
You made the right decision about the Deben, we were on board this w/e and the boat was dancing all over the place in the marina. About 2 hours before HW the wind picked up a good deal. Still, the eber kept us toasty /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
Four things.

1) Jim comes up with the goods again. Priceless. Took me five to stop laughing. I really hope it is Maloprop in the photo.

2) Nathan's adventures are fantastic with a superb blog and youtube videos. Looking forward to the next installment. Sailing is one of the few remaining areas left where we can experience real adventure.

3) The only thing Nathan has done wrong has attract Malaprop into the East Coast forum. Get back to the Lounge where you belong - you certainly don't belong on a boat judging by the unseamanlike use of a beer can whilst navigating the straights of the arundel canal.

4) I forgot the 4th thing.
