I don\'t know much, but...

Being a simple South African I don't know much, but isn't England meant to be quite hot at football and then they go and get themselves beaten by Australia 3-1.

Now if Iam correct (and I am) England is ranked 6th in the world and Australia is a lowly 51st.

So what I now know is that the English are cr&p at sport - the only exception being rugby.

Yes and it was interesting that Wales got almost zero coverage after the England, Scotland and Ireland marches on the news this am following their results.

Wales has now gone 10 games unbeaten and have beaten teams including Argentina, Italy, Germany and Sweden. If this had been England then they would have been hailed as the greatest team since 1966 but Wales barely got a mention. Just goes to show the English press cannot take pride in another british country's success. Its no wonder those countries want independence.

I'm glad you remembered the Rugby. Rather rubbishes your English are cr@p theory really - anyway - it wasn't a serious game.

sport, sporting, sportsmanlike...

We might not be ace at everything, but Brits are repeatedly champions at sportsmanSHIP, something your own countrymen in cricket and rugby could begin to learn, perhaps?

yes you were! You introduced the subject of your own nationality in the first sentence ofthe thread! Sport relies on sporting approach, unlike that exhibited by recent SA sportsmen. I trust you aren't made of the same stuff- can dish it out, but can't take it?

Welsh Soccer

Please note the difidence...not even one insullting reply.

Thought for the highly-paid English soccer Administrators. Why play a friendly against Australia?...they don't (rightly) understand the word (friendly that is)?

They want to WIN> You'd have had an easier time against Brazil !!! At least they would have lain down nicely.

I am sure I read somewhere only hunting, shooting and fishing are sports all the rest are games. Does this make us Brits the best at gamesmanship ?

What other sports are there other than Boating and Rugby? Both usually enjoyed by well mannered and well behaved people but then there is always one!!

Re: Welsh Soccer

Exactly, turn their blind eye's to our success just like the English press and just hope we'll go away rather than support us. I support England whenever they play, why can't the English do the same. They might have to support the Welsh coz there is a good chance they are gonna be the only British team that'll make it to the Euro finals!!

Learner by the way, wots the latest on the SH48 situtation????

Re: sport, sporting, sportsmanlike...

Your thread starts "being a simple south african" and then goes to comment adversely about another country. This country. My country. The sentiment of your initial thread is clearly derogatory, excluding yourself, and that being from SA permits you to comment adversely, freely about the sporting prowess or otherwise of another, as you did. So, I turned the question back at you. Now, it seems, you're on a defensive back foot: the country of your birth which you raised as a passport to comment so freely and adversely has recently demonstrated the most ghastly display of bad sportsmanship both on the field (at twickenham, rugby ) and with the captain of you cricket team being found spectacularly guilty of matchfixing on a grand scale. Weaseling out of the issues? Your country's sporting representatives would at this point throw a punch, bribe the ref, or get disqualified. Which do you choose? And will you choose your words more carefully next time? Shall we agree to just ditch this thread and call it a friendly? Hm?
