Re: sport, sporting, sportsmanlike...

I openly admit that the sporting conduct of the SA thugby team is disgraceful and I don't condone what Hanse did either, but it was no worse than what one of the Aussie cricketers did (one of the Warne brothers I think), but the Auzzie never got a whipping.

When England thumped SA in the last test, how often did I hear things similar too "So much for being a world class rugby team/did the Springboks know what sport they were playing/went to a boxing match and some rugby broke out" .... and so on.

I was merely returning the favour. It seems to have worked....

Re: sackcloth not Ashes

Nice baiting. But RSA gave an exhibition of thuggery in a rugby test match a few months ago, and lost very very badly.

Whereas the eng footie team played all their squad players, everywhere, in a friendly against a team with lot to prove - Oz narrowly didn't make the world cup - England just did. Ofcourse, all credit to RSA when they win something worth winning. But that hasn't happened of late. Uk teams, it is true, haven't won a lot of soccer recently, nor cricket. But in all sports Eng and Uk have most certainly been worthy, so for the moment, sportswise, it might be more appropriate to wear your own nationality (sportswise) a little less proudly? Or, indeed, with a large helping of shame and embarrasment? Nuff said?

all imho, of course...

Re: Welsh Soccer

'I support England whenever they play'.

I'm afraid I'm not so magnanomous . I only support 2 teams , Wales.... and anyone playing England. That' s why I'm at Twickenham tomorrow, Vive La France.

SH 48 will either complete or fall TOTALLY over this week.

Are England really any good at rugby? I can't remember them winning th six nations or any other important competition of late.

Sure they won a couple of friendlies but if they don't count for anything at football why are they imortant in rugby?

Hm, you could be better informed. Your question implies that some rugby matches are very important, others not, so which begs the question, are anyrugby matches important at all?

However, the recent rugby test matches were contested hotly and fiercely, unlike this weeks friendlies in soccer. And all credit to them, England rugby beat every single side in the Southern Hemisphere last year. A pretty good record really. Better than others who tried the same, but as you say, not as defining as the upcoming world cup.

Reckon you touched a nerve there Stingo. You appeared to have observed merely what most of us did i.e. that the England team"on paper" should have beaten lowly Australia. I think that fact that your from SA is academic and does not justify the critcism aimed at you. I mean what if a Norwegian had made the observation?
