I don\'t care what you think ... I had a marvelous time and I\'m happy

This weekend - had friends round ... Weather was good ... so it was a jaunt on the river ....

Saturday with girls as well - who insist on sitting on foredeck to enjoy the view etc. A wine or two and happy !

Prevents me from putting up the rags though ! So it's a motor job.

Sunday - it's boy's day !! Girls decide to stay home ... so Edgar and I up rags ... and cast off .....

I don't care how bad my sails are ... how baggy they now are ... (they are not original and need recutting to remove the yards of slack in them !!) ... but we had a whale of a time out there ... arrived back at home base relaxed, fresh and happy.

And to crown it all - Girls had bought MORE beer and also got BBQ organised ............. now that is what I call a day out on the water ....

You cast off ... switch off ..... no time-table, no cares .... just sheer utter bliss ......

So moan about dirty boat, moan about baggy sails, moan about whatever you like - WE don't care - WE enjoyed ourselves ... WE were on a river with only 2 other boats all weekend ...

FANTASTIC !! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Great pics - but did you really need the storm jib? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

From the girls' hats, it looks as if it's still a bit parky up your way....?

As I am sure you are aware, (but I'll tell you everyone else), the mainsail you have up is for an OK dinghy, which has a very bendy, unstayed mast, and no jib. It may not be possible to have it suitably recut. If I was you, I would take advice before wasting any money.

Love the mooring.

Looks to me Nigel, that as soon as it warms up a bit you are going to be in that river cutting some of that weed back!!

Or can you get SWMBO to do it? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

weed in the cutting

Old colonial (now dead) of my aquaintance ran plantation in British Guyana ( as was). Said he installed a dugong in drainage ditches to eat the weed.

I'm renowned for ignoring advise !!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yep - its from a OK dinghy ... sails and mast are not original - those went missing when it came out of the soviet marine school - with the other 4 sister boats.... 3 of which disappeared ... Mine is the last boat left here ..

The sail can be cut .. the reason for the daft shape is the stupid bungee cord boltrope in the luff and also foot. You have to really give it a hard stretch to get it anywhere near right ... and to be honest half the time I can't be bothered ! The boats a fun boat to just potter and muck about with. It will never sail fast or well ... its got leeway that makes a Macwester look like it sails on rails !!

The best to do with the main actually is cut it near flat ... as its badly stretched ...

The jib is a joke really ... needs to be 2x the size ... but then again it all works and we enjoyed it ... !!

To those who commented about the weed - that will become a jungle soon ... and I don't mind ... cause my canal is a fish haven and I like angling. I do drag a grapnel through odd times to clear worst ...

The pontoon is 1 ton (1.1 cu.m) plastic additive containers with alloy frames (termed IBC) ... from my diesel / fuel oil work. Make ideal supports for pontoon when filled with water. They can take mooring ropes through the framing and not budge etc.
Before winter ... pump out water and float whole lot back ashore.

I'm hoping at some stage to have my other boat launched and maybe round at house at times ..... !

Way to go Nigel! Looks like you all had an excellent time 'just messing about on the river', like Ratty and his chums.

Contrast your day out to a typical day on the Solent...... ummm, no comparison really!

I am just thinking back to the last lot of photos you posted of your creek all frozen over and deep snow everywhere - more contrasts.....

And I am pleased to see that the Safety Brigade have not launched a tirade of comments re lack of life jackets worn, no guard rails, drinking underway (!)....... and I hope they don't. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Funny when talking to another about it - they reckoned if I posted any piccies on here - I'd get comments about bad set of sails, no LJ's, beer .... etc. etc. - as he said probably ciause they had a bad weekend !!

Cheers and thanks ......... I'm still grinning today - even after seeing the bill for car repairs !! and some lab gear falling apart on test !!
