Just went out to put some crap in the wheely bin and someone has chucked a Costa coffe cup in there. Now this really does illustrate how sad some people are. I live about 2 miles from the town centre on a private estate. Has someone walked all that way with an effing cup of coffee?

What is it with these people. Why do they have to walk round town carrying a cup of coffee. Are they so busy that they can't sit down and have a hot drink like everyone else? Obviously they don't have jobs with desks or houses with chairs. How would it look if I walked around town carrying a pint of lager in a glass? Correct, I'd look like an arse.

Be warned. If I see any of you at the LBS carrying a cup of coffee around i'll 'ave ya.

I quite often walk around with a cup of tea. More often I drive around with one. Or take it to work. That reminds me. Must bring all the beakers back from work!

He's a desperate soul - No boat you see

He offered to help me launch my boat when I finally sort out this damm Engine Drip Tray so that it passes the BSS Cert. I think I better get on with it before it goes over the EDGE. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Re: Ian..

Ian did they make you anchor the battery cover as part of the safety thingy ?

When I last had mine done in 2001 I was in Brighton intending to bring her to the non tidal Thames. Had some awfull seas off Brighton during the season slamming into troughs props out, fridge across the room that sort of thing, in all that time the 8 batteries (4 domestics boxed in & 4 starters boxed in) did not move an inch. Yet here I was about to go to non tidal waters and I had to fix braces across the tops of each battery box to comply with the test.

DON'T CALL ME IAN .... /forums/images/icons/mad.gif

Er no - I had to put new terminals on - those plastic, no clamping ones as I had the old fashioned Car Battery type but the batteries did not need to be a box. They are of course strapping down in location.

Re: Ian..

Sorry Adrian did'nt read your profile (wheres the tag name come from then?)

I remember now whilst boxes were not mandatory the batteries should not have more than 10mm movement either sideways or up, and as my box tops were not screwed down hence the braces were needed. Guess they must think the batteries could jump about in all those massive waves on the non tidal Thames.
You can see the irony given my account of seas off Brighton

Re: Ian..

Actually it's on record before but the lanason is LANASON and is built up from LANe And SON. It was the name of my fathers business ......... now sold on .... so a very sentimental and personal name and indeed "unique".

Re: Ian..

there is also a requirement for the batteries to be covered so that nothing can fall on them that might bridge the terminals. Having once seen a stilson literally welded to a battery post i can see the sense in this!

Re: B1

Tony as I said mine have covers on (off course you know that)
but what about my ironic comment re 10mm movement sideways or up on the Thames ?

Re: Ian..

I solved that by having the Terminals covered by using the plastic clamp, which was considered acceptable. The terminals are therefore not exposed to the risk of anything falling accross them .... However, I think it would be a good idea to put them into one of the plastic batteries boxes as well. I may well do this before next season as it will also keep them clean.

Re: B1

have you ever seen a hire boat hit a wall at speed or -god forbid- collide with another........I think the thinking behind this is that batteries shouldnt be able to break loose under ANY circumstances.

Re: Cup holders

Oh, my car has no cup holders either. Just hold cup in one hand and drive with the other. Think it's called DRINKING AND DRIVING! When I used to drive to the middle east. I used to make tea all the time going down M6/M1.
Once made a fried egg butty going down the M8. Must admit, I did not try that again!!

Re: B1

Gotcha plus I suppose whilst at sea there is no safety thing cos your not so much in close proximity with other boats so if your batteries move it only effects you.

Re: Ian..

On previous boat on the UpperThames, an Ocean going tunnel drive Birchwood 25 we had to strap down and secure gas bottles within locker as well as batteries . Spose it can get a bit choppy around Bray.....
Don't understand it all really - nor the BSS.
