I do like a BARGAIN. Is this one?

mmmmmmmmmmmmm...

my girlfriend looks at this boat everyday from the office window, beauty is in the eye of the beholder but i love it!!!

Think you will need some pretty deep pockets to feed its drinking habit!!!

it was going up and down southampton water on wednesday. serious rooster tail out the back!! would love to have a play as long as i had someone elses fuel account!

I'm wondering how long it would take our audit department to spot that the average mpg on my fuel card had gone from 30mpg to 0.5mpg

A few years ago, (40)when I was a manager for a car auction I was asked to value a car which was virtually unsaleable. Anyway when it went to auction it fetched good money and more than I thought as the car warranted a buyer with with unusual requirements.
That is whats wrong with this boat, down from £99K to £49K. The problem is that the boat is for sale in the wrong country. It needs to go to the Middle East where petrol costs peanuts. Then it would find a buyer. Either that offer £40K, plonk some brand new diesels in, sell the old engines for £5k.
And before anyone asks the car was a "F" reg Ford Corsair, Left Hand Drive, Automatic, Convertable.
The buyer, a wealthy Motor Trader who wanted it for his Spanish holiday home.
So, if you want it, do your sums for diesel engines, get it bought.

sold

Loaded on transport today deal completed and all sold. Dont know its destination

Did not mean that I liked the colour...

If boat and engines are good, then it could be a good buy for the right person...

Good seakeeping hull, long lasting engines and can be re-sprayed.... been for sale a long time, so room for negotiations I guess...

Well , Alf what do you think?

"High performance KEVLAR boat with luxury interior . 2 x 600HP Detroit diesels 8V71Ti . One engine needs new heads and at least one new piston. "

I'd seriously consider the ItalCraft if I was in the same position as in 2004 when we bought ours.... Hull is slim (4M wide), sharp forefoot and obvioulsy built for some serious speed (compromise is interior space... but with 51 foot, you have the length to compensate for that...).

Will refrain from commenting more on boat, and suspect you are looking for some input on the engines....

The 71 series is probably the most successful series of engines Detroit ever built, so sound in principle with 71 cu in (1.2L) per cylinder.
The 8V71 is therefore 9.6L displacement... and with 600 hp, that means they have taken out approx 60 Hp from each of the cylinders. (mine are approx 55)..
At those ratings, when run hard, you will have to calculate with a re-build after approx 1500 - 2000 hrs. Of course, with this power available, you could run more gently and still get good speed and have a rebuild at 10.000 hrs.

So if boat is good, you would look at re-build cost of full engine to be knocked off the price, (not just one cylinder to be worked). Head replacement sounds heavy ... more likely to be cylinder liners, but if head is required, there are plenty of reconditioned ones out there (they may even be the same as the 4/71's, so should be easy to come by). Re-build cost should be running at allrox £15 - 1800 per hole when done properly by a DD outfit, parts & labour thrown in (I know DD guys who would be happy to do the work in situ for a good price etc.).... and you could do single bank only, if the other bank is OK.

You will then have a engine that will last you a lifetime... I would also do a full health check on the second engine (see note on re-build frequency) as it is likely that the "fun factor" (WOT) have been difficult to stay away from on this boat... and as such you may wish to consider some light work being done on this one as well.

So, nothing that would put me off on the engine side.... (Filters at £5 - £10, injectors at approx £50 etc.)... Smooth running, easy to work on solid iron lumps... Was good enough for the RNLI Tyne Class so should be good enough for most... Reputation for being thirsty, but most of that is because they have been out of tune (a couple of hours on each lump sorts that out), or in order to squeeze out the last knot out of the boat, the boat would have been marginally over-propped, which overloads the engine with excessive fuel burn vs achieved RPM.

Hope this helps, but please let me know if you want me to get into more details......
