Yet another great weekend on Cobby girl. After working in south Wales for a few hours on Wednesday, I went to CYC and enjoyed a couple of pints before spending the night on the pontoon. After fitting a new radio/CD player (£50 from Aldi) I got the 5pm lockout and headed up to Portishead. The winds were light but I did have the engine off for a hour or so on the way. After an uneventfull trip through the lock and mooring on the pontoon it was nice of Damo to pop over. Some usefull advice from him helped on my later trip up to Bristol. On Friday evening I was joined by my crew, SWMBO and Lilly. Saturday morning dawned foggy so we took the 07-30 lockout and anchored in the hole and waited for it to clear while listening to VTS. At 09-00 it had lifted a little so we set off for the Avon, in the channel the visibility was fine and we enjoyed a nice motor up to Bristol. Bristol harbour had a music festival so we had music all day on Saturday. We were on the pontoon outside the Arnofini and enjoyed the buzz of all people sitting around enjoying the atmosphere and music. We headed down towards the Cumberland basin at 11-00 Sunday and took a slow trip down the Avon coming the other way was a small mobo called Bush baby with a forum burgee. The wind was again light in the channel but we were able to turn off the engine at Denny spit. As the wind was nice and light we were able to use the cruising chute for the first time. As we were enjoying the sailing so much I dicided to head down towards Monkstone and push the tide up to locks from there. The 16-15 lock was full up so we had to raft against a small mobo. I wish the barrage people would get organised! a little organising would have made the whole thing more civilised. The trimaran Gem was a little worried when my anchor was hanging over their transom, caused by the mobo moving forward and seemingly not realising we would move too! After settling back onto the mooring and having a nice pot of tea we set off home, well satisfied with a nice weekend.

Sounds fantastic. wish we'd been out actually. We shot across Ramsey Sound on Saturday morning on a day that we should have had in June. Dropped in the water all excited. At 10m it was dark and when we hit the bottom just on 30 metres, you had to put your head in the sand to see it. Not a lot of point in that, so we bailed out and went for coffee and cakes in Haverfordwest followed by home made haddock fishcakes and Pemrokeshire potatoes in the Artramont in Croes goch (highly recommended). Courage directors from a landlord who knows how to keep beer and a sore head on Sunday. Not a classic weekend, from a water sports viewpoint, but nice to get a spot of sun at long last.

Bush Baby is owned by Sneddon.

He is normally on here all the time, but has a problem with his laptop.

He said he noticed you looking at the burgee /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Where did you moor in Cardiff? I am sorry not to have a picture of your boat for you but I forgot to take my camera back to the boat. There was a lot of junk floating about in the channel this weekend, I always think it is more of a problem for mobos than us raggies.

Your right about the "junk".

Both Sneddon and I had problems with it getting caught around the props.
Once caught you try speed up, but they just cavitate. A bit of forward and reverse seems force it loose.

At the time you start to think about... lift out.... gearbox... props agghhhh....£££££ /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Thankfully, not this time.

Saw Cobby Girl on her mooring today. She looks great . /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

One floating tree we saw last week was so big we mistook it for a boat at first. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Gutted......ours is out for maintenance etc...... just when the weather is ok!!! Need a welder in Cardiff (portable) if anyone knows one?

I *thought* I recognised the name Cobby Girl ! We went past you on Sunday at about 1.15pm, heading up to the Second Severn Bridge seeing as how it was a nice day. I did wave but I think you were busy in the cockpit with something or other. Sadly didn't get the camera out in time otherwise I'd have taken a photo.

Had a brilliant run to the bridge & back, water was very smooth once we were about 10 minutes out of Cardiff. Nice cruising speed of 29 - 30 knots once the water flattened off. I'd planned to be out of the barrage before 12 but ended up making the 12.30 lock out. Got under the bridge and back to the barrage in time for the 2.45 lock back in /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Spent the rest of the afternoon moored up at Mermaid Quay drinking coffee and reading the papers, all very civilised. Also met Trevor on Galipette whilst we were there.
