You have helped with getting the foot off the mast and SWMBO sorted the poly beeds up the mast with the Dyson so it was up to me to replace the electrics /new radio ect. Now I need to fit the Radar. JRC 1000 Mk.2. It comes with 15meters of interunit cable. Question. I want to lead the cable down inside the mast ...can I remove the large plug from the end of the cable .. what problems are involved and how do I avoid them?
Mike

With my JRC I just cut the cable and joined it with a chocolate block strip. Also where it came out of the mast I used a Maplin's plastic gland to stop and chafe. Works well.

If you go down the 'cut the cable where it enters the interior of the boat route' I suggest that you check the clour of the wires before you actually cut them.

I cut my Furuno cable and then discovered that there were 2 red and 2 black wires with no guidance within the installation instructions. It took me a bit to sort it out.

fitted mine about three years ago. Cut the cable so as I could feed portion with the plug on, from where the screen was fitted, through a bulkhead and up into headlining, where it met the other cut end where it came through a neat deck gland. Joined it with chock block, but used different sizes as power wires are larger. Try to avoid shortening the cable as the unit is calibrated for that length(although it can be recalibrated)
Works a treat and has given no trouble since.

Cutting the cable will invalidate the warrenty.

Nothing in the installation instructions, or any other paperwork, infers that.

Anyway, I sourced a replacement cable for mine.

Many thanks for your help, will cut the cable. Warranty is out of date as unit was bought 3yrs ago. Will be very careful rejoing same. Mast bracket ordered from USA £56plus £12 postage. £100 plus in this country!!!!!

DONT remove the plug...it will be useless. Cut the cable at a suitable point and join it after fitting. Join it in a shielded waterproof box, available from RS components for about a tenner delivered.

The joint can then be located in a good place away from water etc.
