Why do people like you on all forums insist that people have to explain themselves in full or "cover" themselves.

1. I have three disabled sons
2. I have just TWO living with me, hence stating two at the time, my eldest son went missing this year three months ago and is listed as missing by the police (happy now, want proof)
3. I am also DYSLEXIC so I await comments on other mistakes I make

Can I ask that anyone with no useful comments to make or who want full explanations into my private life please ignore my posts

I also stated that my father died on the 12th November allowing me the finances to buy the boat, my mother died this week, so please think before speaking

Jeremy, a very warm welcome to the forum again, it sounds like you're having an awful time of it and hope that some of the comments made in this thread have been useful. Unfortunately, I cannot comment regarding your particular requirements but hopefully you'll get some more constructive advice coming through soon without the need to post the response you've needed to above. cheers Gary

If you are planning to go back on benefit, you need to be aware that you may have made yourself deliberately impoverished.

13 posts from this new user, most of which have been the poor chap defending himself! What have his personal circumstances/priorities got to do with anyone but himself? He's given a budget and some idea of his use? But not much help given in the 48 posts so far.

Have you tried asking this forum? - it's not as active as this one, but the majority of people on there seem to own boats between £5000 and £30,000 so you might find you get some good advise there.

I'd recommend contacting a few brokers on the South Coast. Be prepared to travel a bit (there are loads of brokers in Poole for instance) and have a walk round as many boats as you can. They are quiet at the moment so you're likely to be given plenty of their time. You should be able to pick up something nice for £20k, but likely to have a petrol engine if you want a newer boat. It'll probably be American which is fine - brands like Monterey, Chaparell, Sea Ray, Larson etc. 21' gives a nice balance of space and seaworthyness but to sleep 4 you would have to go with a 25' hull minimum really (in a sports cruiser). I'd avoid a bowrider personally as they always seem to me to be a bit risky in the rough and you lose the cuddy anyway. Great for lakes, probably not so great on the sea around the West Country.

It's a great time to buy, particularly if you have cash in your pocket. Good luck!

OK, I will keep my mouth shut, just pointing out a potential pitfall for you to keep your eyes open for.

If it was just a budget, what was this bit added for " Up to this months I was getting by on DLA for my sons and my Carers Allowance."?

Just read this thread with interest. I think sailing boats are not what you are looking for at this point in time. So to MOBOs. You could go for a sports boat (as many have said) lots of US ones in your price range. Most will push you along at 30kns and more and will happily seat 6 comfortably. You will have a choice of inboard engine with leg (petrol or diesel) or an OB petrol. All set ups work OK and there are ads and disads, like noise, space, range, access etc. with the different set ups Or.. it occurred to me that a Merryfisher 695 (or similar) might suit as it gives you a safe deep cockpit and walkaround decks. I started out boating in 635 many years ago and they are great learner and good at Sea. Not as fast as a sports boat and a little more expensive to buy, but they have a wheelhouse, cuddy and heads. Best thing is to go and have a good look at the different types and narrow it all down a bit and focus in. Decide which design best suits you and your family and the needs you have and will have when out on the water. There are numerous safety devices and systems you can employ to keep your crew safe and you can create simple drills and rules to apply when aboard. There are many people enjoying boats who have a learning difficulty to cope with, so do not be put off, just plan well.

Come back on here when you have some boats in mind and ask for more specific feedback.

Above all, have fun. The hunt is one of the best bits :)

Might help the OP if a couple of forum members gave a rough breakdown of annual costs for a boat of the size / type he is asking about.

This is the key point. Buying a MOBO is the easy part. Affording to keep it is quite another, particularly if on very modest means. I know some people on here scrimp and save to pay for their pride and joys and if you are mechanically capable you can avoid some costs, but it seems to me that if the OP is looking for a cuddy the question will be how long could you could actually afford to keep it? A bit longer if marinas are out of the equation. The OP also should look at the fuel consumption of boat petrol engines too as they may be shocked.

Yes there have been "lowlife" on another forum that I up with, in fact a well respected member also left, here is what she said.

I am also sure that members here are quite capable of making their own decisions and not being led by the same one from that forum, who in fact have nothing to offer.

Jeremy, I am now completely convinced that Admin is on the side of the "baddies".

The post in 4 or 5 Section were merged into one topic to begin with. Just now I received a message that the entire topic has been deleted.

At least I can hope that it is because he didn't like my comments, because your topic "Just for info" is still there.

Did you know it is impossible to resign from UHH? I've tried to delete my e-mail address, no go.

I've slept on it, and have decided that as long as especially those few are still on UHH, I will not be back.

I won't be starved for information for either taking or editing photos. to tell you about an add-on I found for PSE - inexpensive (US$ 12.00) and it unlocks half a dozen things from the full Photoshop in PSE. But first I want to become a bit more familiar with them. Look for it next week or so.

Esther

I have come here for advice, if the genuine members here help then thank you, otherwise I will allow the two above to lower this forum as they did the other one.

Fair enough Jeremy, keep the questions coming, participate and I am sure the stuff from the other forums will be inconsequencial. Hope the venture into boating works out for you. The two pastimes certainly go well together

Thank you

Thanks to the help I have received here my sons Simon and Stephen and I have thought about it. I should as with any forum gone in with an intelligent question, so we have re thought the whole thing.

We are looking for a boat "now" (as the thoughts have changed due to the advice received), about 24', needs a toilet, seating at the back so that we can enjoy the sun, a cabin where we can do small meals and a bedroom, my sons are happy to turn bunks into beds.

It would be nice to have a canopy or closed area when motoring in case it rains, that we can stand up in.

We will moor at either Torquay or Queen Anne battery Plymouth all year round.

I am not a racer but don't want to go along all the time at 12mhp (sorry kts ?),

We are happy with DIY (not engine stripping)

Like this

My main worry is the engine inboard/outboard

If I had a budget of £20k would it be best to buy £15k and set aside £5k for any problems

This is a serious discussion and I thank you
